Thought the menu was very limited unless you like fish. Drinks very expensive and the food was just about ok, definitely nothing special and not good value for money, won't be returning in a hurry, was so much better 12 months ago

Dear auntyjuju,

Thankyou for posting a review following you recent visit. We do value all feedback.

I am, however a little puzzled regarding some of your comments. You mention our menu being limited unless it is fish. However we have 25 main courses dishes, of which only 7 are fish dishes. We do have a wide selection of pies, chicken dishes, & steak, gammon and burgers available.

We also run a number of specials. As you visited on a Friday you may have noticed we run a fish friday offer where if you buy 2 main courses off our special fish menu you can purchase a bottle of Chablis half price. Perhaps this is what you were referring to. On other days be other a different mix of specials, meat, vegetarian and fish and on Wednesdays we run a special pie menu.

I do hope that you will take the time to visit us again sometime, perhaps on a different day when we are not running a fish menu.

Many Thanks
Alex Woolfenden

I have been visiting this pub for years and have thoroughly enjoyed eating there. I visited with a friend a few weeks ago and observed quite a difference in the service. After waiting for an hour, we had to ask where our starters were - they appeared after a further 10 minutes. The pub was not particularly busy - I would completely understand if they were rushed off their feet. We waited quite a long time for the mains and when they arrived, they were not very warm. The "haddock" was very greasy and I picked the fish out from the batter. The staff (particularly gentleman at bar) were not at all friendly - this is the first time I've found this to be the case at the Bears Head. It's such a shame as it is a lovely pub, very cosy.

We dined on a Saturday afternoon and had the 3 course special. It was good value for money. The food was what we expected, good quality for the price we paid! The staff were all very friendly and very welcoming. It was busy but we were happy to sit in the ambiance of the 'Old Style' Pub as we were in no hurry. Breakfast was a bonus! Lovely 'Full English!'

Love the look of the place and the cosy winter fires on a frosty eve but sadly the poor quality and presentation of the food spoil it. The staff are usually frostier than the outdoors too. Have reviewed it before and was asked by the manager to give it another go. I have - its still as bad. Pic says it all.
Cheese and potato pie was hard and heavy as a brick with ribbons of something on top - wasn`t sure what as menu didn`t mention, I asked waitress as it tasted horrible like dried burned pasta. She had no clue - said it was there to look good. Taste did not come into it apparently. I found one small square of potato. The hunters was Mini chicken slapped with a dollop of barbeque and frozen peas barely thawed and mash that looks as though its squeezed out of a plastic bag. Far better quality pub food close by - shame.
