“Very Good First Impressions”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

Visited for dinner with several colleagues, I was surprised by how busy the restaurant was.

Whilst busy, due to the size of the building all the tables are spread out and you can enjoy conversations without listening to otehr dinners.

The food was very good, the scallops to start and curry to follow were very enjoyable.

Definately worth a further visit.

“Lovely building, food just ok”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

Beautiful rooms, full of lovely details. Place was packed, and this might have been the cause of the skin on my duck being undercooked and rubbery, the hash soggy rather than crispy, and the greens unseasoned. Charcuterie board for starter was great, just a shame that lack of attention to (pretty basic) detail let down my main course.

“Usual Brunning and Price menu in a spectacular refurb.”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

Have never been to the Old Hall before but will be back! This Grade 1 listed building (apparently one of only two pubs with this grading in UK) has been extended at the back with the addition of a spectacular "garden room". The old oak beams and wattle-and-daub walls of the original pub have been added to with a modern wood and glass structure that, amazingly, sits very well with the original.

The evening that we visited - it was a Saturday night and we were lucky to get a table - the place was packed both in the impressive hotch-potch inside typical of very old buildings - and in the well laid-out, landscaped gardens at the rear. The young staff were run off their feet but unfailingly polite, helpful and cheerful in all ways and did an excellent job in serving drinks very quickly, and getting hot food to the right people within a very reasonable time-frame - which, in turn, shows the excellent "behind-the-scenes" staff and organisation that we have come to expect from B&P.

The menu is a typical Brunning and Price menu - many, obviously popular, dishes that seem to pop up in all their pubs with a few slightly different ones to keep the more adventurous happy. The food, as always, was well presented and served on hot plates, with all on our table of five enjoying starters and mains with equal relish and lengthy silences of approval!

It's not the cheapest pub in this area of good quality pubs serving good food - and some items could be classed as 'pricey', but it is well worth a visit and you can be sure that the food will be good and the service will be excellent.

Probably best to book - especially at weeks-end - and beware that the small carpark (and the road immediately outside) is liable to be completely full, though there is free parking within a short walking distance.

“Excellent”
Reviewed July 31, 2014

We visited with my parents on Saturday night. The food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to accommodate a specific dietary requirement. The restaurant was busy and very atmospheric. The food was delivered quickly. All in all, a good night.

“A perfect dinner on our journey north”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Diverted off the M6 for dinner on a journey north. A fabulous choice -- wonderful building and great garden. Very friendly service, the seared duck breast with duck hash cake, baby vegetables and Madeira was the best pub meal I've ever had.
