“A spectacular wedding location with even better hosts!”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

My daughter Kate got married at HillTop Country House on Saturday 29th June 2103, a day which will live for ever in my memory.

Claire and Martin helped us plan our perfect wedding and nothing was too much trouble for them .,.. right down to letting Kate and Alec design their own pie for the wedding meal.

The day took more than a year to plan and the detailed professionalism and personal touch of the hosts was amazing to experience, every small detail covered from their vast knowledge from hosting more than 200 weddings of all shapes and sizes.

The wedding day itself went perfectly with all the Hilltop staff every bit as engaging, committed and professional as the owners. And Claire somehow arranged for a beautiful sunny day in the middle of a rain soaked fortnight so we could not have asked for more.

I must make special mention of Martin .... our mostly unseen but constant supporter and mentor on the day ... a gentle friendly nudge here and there to keep us all on the straight and narrow ... and a set of excellent wedding photos delivered on a personalised DVD the next day at breakfast. Martin .. you are a veritable jewel!

Thanks to all at Hilltop Country House for a wonderfully memorable wedding day.

And to potential brides and grooms...... I don't believe you will find a better wedding location and supporting team anywhere in the UK.

My Fiancé and I stayed recently to view the Hilltop as a potential wedding venue.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. The family run B&B is located only minutes from the town but the views and the surrounding grounds make you feel a million miles from the hustle and bustle of home.

Martin, who along with his wife Claire have owned this beautiful place for nearly 30 years, met us at the door. He was busy trying to collect the leaves from the driveway, which in the October wind was a thankless task!

Martin however greeted us like we we're old friends, like one of the family. He abandoned his leaves for the moment and showed us to our room. We were given the 'Blue' room, one of the smaller of the four on offer at this family run B&B.

The room was welcoming and spotless. The ensuite shower, one of the most powerful I've used almost worth the visit alone! The place was a perfect country setting!

After getting settled we were given the tour, Martin again excitingly pointing out beautiful aspects of the grounds, building and surrounding views, almost like he was seeing them for the first time himself. You could tell instantly he loves this place, he and the family will ensure you do too!

During the tour we met Claire along with one of thier daughters, not forgetting Willow the English Springer! Again when meeting any of the family you are left with a smile following a welcoming exchange. The tour showed us the fantastic setting for our wedding and we were clearly not going to be able to top it. Both silently falling in live, this was the place to get hitched!

That evening after a few suggestions and looking through the menus in the room we decided to go for dinner at a local pub, The Cock And Pheasent. Martin immideatly offered to drive us the short journey, he wouldn't take no for an answer, he won, he drove us and collected us after we found the bottom of a lovely bottle of white. Little unexpected gestures such as this showed us that this is more, welcoming guests into thier life for a short stay, than a business.

If you haven't guessed it by the review we love this place and you need to visit and experience it yourself.

Needless to say breakfast was very nice indeed. We were sat in a dining room like we were the only guests, even though this wasn't the case. Setting was fantastic and the food, especially the bacon, delicious.

Nothing is too much trouble at the Hilltop. We will be back and we'll be bringing all our friends and family with us.

Thank you,
