Called for tea while passing,we have eaten here several times before, the food i feel is good value for money, nicely cooked and quite well presented, service was abit slow as it was not that busy but we were not in a rush so it did not matter, staff were friendly enough. The only thing i feel is that it is not as clean as it used to be tables were grubby, the pot that had the cutlery and napkins in was dirty in the bottom and the cutlery was not very clean. The salt and pepper pots needed wiping as well as the vinegar bottles. This may seem picky but for me and my family its important. It would be a shame for standards of cleanliness to go down here as it is a nice place to stop for a good meal.

went here for my sons birthday, party of 8.When we arrived and asked where we were sitting the lad at the bar pointed round the corner and that was it! There was only one menu on the table and we had to look for more ourselves.Having ordered the food and drinks at the bar ( a long wait ) we didn't have to wait too long for the starters. However one of the starters didn't arrive. After waiting to catch the attention of a waitress the missing starter arrived but was incorrect. The waitress disappeared before we could tell her it was wrong. The guest said he would eat it anyway - at this point the waitress reappeared and whisked the starter away in mid mouthful reappearing 5 mins later with the correct one!Luckily the rest of the meal was uneventful.Food was fine and good value for money.

We visited this establishment to celebrate joint birthdays over the May bank holiday weekend. We had pre-booked a table for 20 people, upon arrival we were shown to our tables, 4 of them! Eventually it was agreed we could put two tables together so that 15 sat on one table and behind us another 5 people sat together.

When we ordered our food we were informed there would be a 20 minute wait, which for HOMECOOKED food its expected.

1 1/2 hours later and various complaints and requests to speak to the Manager, we finally began to receive our food, 30 minutes after this we were all finally served so the last person to be served was sat eating alone as everyone else had eaten. The pizza one of our children received was a microwaved Chicago Town Pizza :(

The Manager never did come to speak to us.

There were clearly not enough staff (we saw about 5 staff in total) to cope with a party of 20 people who wanted to eat. There restaurant was filled but with people who were mainly drinking only or like us, waiting desperately for their food to arrive.

This disgusting service resulted in us all being very hungry and irate, which was not the 'relaxed bank holiday birthday party atmosphere' we had hoped for.

Fantastic we thought a sunny bank holiday, a rare thing. So off to the forest we went (Delamere) and it was wonderful, we walked for an hour or more and got hungry and thirsty so off to the Vale Royal. WOW the place was packed and there was not a seat on the new decking anywhere and even the tables on the grass were full. We had to wait for an hour for food but we were in no rush (not like others) so we enjoyed a cold beer and sat on the wall, when it came it was worth waiting for, nice portions, hot, well presented, and very tasty all that you would want from a value restaurant, and at the price we paid it was very good value. We are going to book a saturday night next month for my wifes birthday and if that is half as good as today then were in for a real treat.
