“A relaxing break”
Reviewed April 10, 2010

My wife and I spent two nights in this excellent hotel. Set in absolutely beautiful surroundings the hotel was clean and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a wide choice of food on the dinner menu and the service was very good. All in all our stay was a most pleasant experience.

We decided to stay at Nunsmere Hall as it came highly recommended to us by a friend. As you turn off the main road, you head down a driveway towards the lake, and the front of the Hall comes into view. Stunning is the word. You need to visit this hotel to realise what other hotels lack in wow-factor. On entering the lobby, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and we were greeted by two members of staff as they walked by. The check in was done by Helen (the Duty Manager) in seconds and we were led to our spacious standard double room, which was overlooking the grounds and garden; with a large bed and all the amenities you would expect from a hotel of this stature. The bathroom was beautifully appointed with a large bath and marble basin surround. This is a very sought after hotel so make sure you book in advance - we booked in for just one night, and after going for a long walk around the lake, we ate in the Crystal Restaurant which was superb. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional and I would like to thank Helen for her hospitality. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We came across Nusmere Hall (a Country house Hotel) by chance, as we needed to visit the area & glad we did. A great night away at a realistic, fair price. First class staff, location & service. Food was excellent & thanks to Becky on reception for being so nice & helpful to us. We will return again. Superb bolthole for that night away from the kids or a wedding. A real 'Home from Home'

Nusmere Hall has gone into my UK top 10 Hotels.

Having stayed in this hotel about 10 years ago we were really looking forward to returning. The location is stunning with the hotel surrounded by water on three sides with lovely gardens, so we opted to book a scenic room. The room, we booked, an executive double was large and airy. Having booked the scenic view we expected at least something relating to previously described. This is where I have my first query. What is classed as a scenic view. A copse of trees? Possibly. A copse of trees with a service road leading to a big green shed? Definitely not. This room was not a scenic view compared to the rest of the hotel setting. Other room issues, why had nobody spotted that taps on the bath were both marked as cold? We didn't notice until we filled the bath with cold water, an easy mistake to make but I am sure we are not the only people to have done this. We also had issues operating the shower taps, the bathrooms décor, peeling wall paper and poor lighting. We suspect this room is not as well frequented as some of the others.

Moving on into the restaurant, there has plenty been written about the service charge and we were aware of it, but it's still a shock. The food is acceptable the wine list extensive and in general the restaurant has a pleasant ambience. What can we say about the staff? May be this is why there's the horrendous service charge because the only way to describe them in one word is inadequate. They tried very hard to be friendly and helpful but a woeful lack of training showed. For example a bottled beer means exactly that beer or ale. So on asking what ale was on offer I was given a list of bottled lagers and cold fizzy keg drinks. This coming from a time served member of staff that should know better. Then the red wine incident at the table. It should have been on the table uncorked, it wasn't and when the waiter poured the wine he replaced the cork, oh and I forgot to mention the table setting, two knives with the fork on the side plate. Although all these points are relatively minor and easily rectified not one member of staff apologised and admitted there mistake. Breakfast was adequate, but nothing out of the ordinary. On checking out the reception manager gave us a sympathetic ear and made copious notes of all are points, promising a response. We are still waiting. The one thing she did advocated was to book direct cutting out the middle man (Last Minute). Perhaps we would have had a better room with a view, perhaps the staff could might of have been more professional. We've stayed at a lot hotels and know the standards for a hotel of this style. Unfortunately as we write this wonderful hotel is lacking that special personal touch. We have been picky with this review but this hotel has quality stamped all over it, lets hope it rediscovers it's missing sparkle.

Check-in was efficient but unfriendly. Requests to reception re: restaurant menu, room service etc. were met with inflexible & unhelpful reaction - had to visit restaurant myself to find any helpful staff - & they were very good. Food was average & uninspired with very limited choice for vegetarians. Hotel itself had a great location but lobby smelt musty & our room, while satisfactory, needed updating.

this is a first class hotel ,set in beautiful surroundings .from the moment one enters the very efficent and friendly receptionist is on hand to check you in and escort yopu to your beautiful room. we had the pleasure of staying in a junior suite with a four poster bed,and a very large and well equipped bathroom , the bar is small but very homely and the staff were fantastic and willing to join in the craic to keep the punters happy. the food in this hotel is simply to die for. the head chef craig malone deserves a gold medal for his food and attention to detail.we had a fantastic weekend at nunsmere hall and are looking forward to returning as soon as possible , for another luxury break.
