We stayed at Nunsmere Hall last night as part of a birthday present. Reception rather quirky but a very warm welcome was extended to us and, though we arrived a little early, our room was ready and we had been upgraded to a rather palatial Junior Suite. It was absolutely huge and we did feel rather pampered! We enjoyed a scrumptious and very substantial afternoon tea which was served by a very accommodating waiter. So much so that we didn't avail ourselves of the evening meal. A three course meal was rather expensive and we didn't feel able to do it justice.
Although our room was very spacious it was surprisingly warm. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were a little too soft for my neck. Clean, crisp linen although we did find the duvet too warm for this time of the year.
We found all the staff helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The breakfast menu was varied and comprehensive and the full English was well cooked and well presented. Again, the waitress was friendly and eager to please and to ensure we were well served.
An enjoyable stay. Our bedroom looked out onto very attractive gardens and the hotel itself is well situated in very beautiful grounds. A very traditional country house which has been sympathetically transformed into a hotel. Out thanks to the staff for making us feel so at home!

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out onto the gardens at the back. All the rooms are named after flowers/shrub...

This was my third visit to the Nunsmere Hotel restaurant this year, and I have yet to be disappointed ! I visited with my sister last Friday evening, however, we didnt stay at the hotel. Next time we think we'll stay and forget the taxis ! We On arrival, we were shown to the bar area which was fairly busy. After some champagne, nibbles, olives etc, we moved into the dining room. We both had the same starter, the twice baked goats cheese souffle, which was very light but tasty. Then we followed with the braised shin of beef cannelloni, which I've had previously, and it was just as good as I'd remembered ! . This is one thing you can guarantee here, that the quality and service is always consistently excellent. We ordered Viognier Shiraz by the glass, to go with the beef, just a small niggle but we were overcharged for the wine, however this was rectified later. We followed with pannacotta dessert for me and my sister had the chocolate dessert option. Just to add that there was a wedding event on at the hotel when we visited, however this didnt interfere with our evening in the restaurant, or affect the service in any way, and the wedding guests were in a marquee further down the corridor. Would definitely recommend the Nunsmere for anyone wanting something a little bit extra special.

This is the 3rd property my wife and I stayed at during out week away - please see my previous Trip Advisor reports. We found Nunsmere via a "secret" discount hotel web site. We had been staying at halls and manors around Stratford-upon-Avon earlier in the week, so this was an hour and a half's drive north towards Chester. Thankfully we avoided the M6 which was gridlocked and arrived mid afternoon on Saturday.

There was a wedding taking place at the hotel, but the staff were kind enough to let us know where people were going to be so we could "join in or avoid" as we wanted. We chose to sit quietly away from the wedding guests and there was plenty of room available to do so.

Situated on an island beside a lake, the Hall is effectively surrounded on 3 sides by water. Access from the main road was fine, and only background noise from this road could be heard at night from our room.

Check-in was super efficient and a gentleman dressed in a bowler hat (probably there for the wedding?) showed us to our room on the top floor. There is a lift with just a few final stairs up to our room in the eaves. The bedroom was a good size, with a bathroom that had a glass shower screen and shower over the bath, along with a single basin and toilet. Not spacious, but plenty big enough for one, and plenty of good fluffy towels available. We did only have one towelling robe provided in the bathroom (sadly I was out-voted by my wife) and we only had one chair in the room, which was slightly strange as there were two of us, but this was not a problem. I'm sure this would have been fixed if we had asked, everything else we asked for was almost instantly provided by the very attentive staff during our stay.

The bed was amazingly comfortable, and my wife at only 5' tall needed the supplied wooden step to get in an out. If you know the children’s story of the “Princess and the pea”, this bed was a contender for the story, minus the pea obviously. My own princess (wife) assures me there was no pea! I could only just manage getting in without a step myself at 6'2". The bed linen was high quality with really good feather pillows too.

One interesting "quirk" here was the do not disturb method for each guest room, which consisted of putting a wooden carved sleeping cat outside your door - both novel and effective, and appeared to work well during our stay.

There was a note left for us in our room on arrival, telling us that the music from the wedding party to be held in a marquee in the gardens that evening would stop promptly at midnight. There was quiet background music playing until well after 1:30am, but we are not sure if this was from the wedding at the Hall or an adjacent property. It was a very low level of noise, and I did not hear this, but my wife tells me she could hear it hence my noting it here.

We had breakfast each day included in the room rate of £80 per room per night, and this was very good, with a cold buffet (they had little boxes of Frosties – a rare treat for me and the only property all week to have them!) and hot items provided by the serving staff to order. Our poached eggs were excellent each day and the sausages and bacon were good "butcher quality" items.

The hall was fully booked for dinner on the Saturday evening, so we had a late afternoon tea in the lounge. The quantity and quality of the cakes and sandwiches were excellent - especially with my "no this, extra that please" requests met in full. We did have dinner there on the Sunday evening, and noted the request to not wear jeans/denim in the restaurant. It was good to get dressed up for dinner, especially as this was our last night away before returning home.

My salmon starter was excellent, but the roast beef both my wife and I had was a little tough, even though it was still quite pink. Some other "regular" dinner guests beside us also mentioned this to the serving staff, saying that it was normally melt in the mouth tender. It wasn't bad, just falling slightly short of good.Had the beef been as our fellow guests described their previous experiences, Nunsmere would have deservedly received an overall “excellent” rating from us here on Trip Advisor.

The saving grace for dinner came with my off-the-menu request for desert which was something like "some vanilla ice cream with some cut up strawberries and some grated chocolate if you have any please".

What arrived was a monumental work of art and by far the best desert, if not the best food item, of our entire week away (close tie between this and the steak at the Vintners in Stratford - see my earlier TA report). Dark chocolate had been melted in a pattern on the plate, with 3 scoops of top quality vanilla bean ice cream placed on top of this, with a cocoa/chocolate dusting and a white chocolate curl along the top, and strawberry pieces cut and placed around the plate and a final milk chocolate drizzle applied over the top of everything. I wish I had taken a photo, as the chef responsible obviously had talent in both art and food preparation. It was the perfect interpretation of my quite vague request, for which I can only assume that someone there can read my mind! My sincere thanks to the people responsible for this excellent “creation”.

Dinner was £25 per person for 3 courses, plus drinks, which is excellent value for the location and quality of food provided. I hope that the beef issue was a one off, and the (openly vocal) comments of our adjacent and apparently regular dinner guests would strongly suggest that this is the case.

If you want to visit the Chester area, and there are plenty of attractions on top of the town itself to visit nearby, then I can thoroughly recommend Nunsmere. It is the perfect location if you want to be close to Chester, but out in the country. I’m pretty sure we’ll be back here again in the future.

Room Tip: Our view of the gardens was nice, or go for a larger room with a sofa.

We felt very well looked after all round by these people. Lovely location in glorious park-like setting with lake and walks.
Two small niggles:
1. They are coming due for an upgrade -- carpets, for example, are beginning to look past-best;
2. Bar prices very steep. GBP 6.00 for a pint is way-over!
For these reasons, they lose the last 'star'.
Would come again (but spirit-in my own booze!!!!!)
GREAT location for a Wedding!!

We would like to congratulate the whole team at Nunsmere Hall from the time we walked in the door and were greeted by the porter in the most welcoming way to our beautiful room and the most helpful staff; the most delicious food we have tasted in a long time and beautifully presented too. We would definitely recommend Nunsmere Hall to anyone wanting a very special stay. Thank you to all the staff for our delightful getaway.

I recently attended a wonderful wedding held at Nunsmere hall. Everything was on site, ceremony, wedding breakfast, evening entertainment, accommodation and this was perfect for us we have a 7 month old baby. One couple even had a monitor which had enough range for them both to enjoy the evening entertainment while baby slept. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. The venue had other rooms so that babies could be taken to quiet areas. Lots of space to sit, to rest those feet after dancing. The wedding ran very smoothly and it didn't feel like the place just did conveyor belt weddings. The food for the wedding breakfast and then breakfast the next day was also very good. The staff were very polite. The rooms were on the expensive side but ever so convenient for new parents and it was well worth it. We didn't have time to explore the grounds but they looked idyllic from the window!
