“Fit for a King?”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Visited Nunsmere Hall Hotel on a travelzoo offer of £99.00 for B & B in an executive room and afternoon tea plus £59.00 for a 5 course dinner. No sooner had we parked the car than Melvyn, the concierge, was on his way over to great us. He kindly took our suitcase to reception where we were told we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite (Gardenia). Melvyn took my suitcase up to the room. On opening the door we could not believe how fortunate we had been. The room is at least three times larger than a normal hotel bedroom and an en-suite almost as large as a bedroom itself. I do not miss much and suggest that the shower tiling in the en-suite should be extended up to the ceiling. When switching on the Television a screen appears with 7 choices, in German. Under the green button on the remote control is a button marked TV. Press this and an English channel will appear. Easy when you know how. The Staff were attentive, but not overly, very polite and pleasant. The meal was excellent and although it was a taster it did have choices. Why did I chose the title of my review. It was going to be '5 star plus' but on our way we called at Chirk Castle where 62 primary school children were visiting. On entering the staff quarters a young boy of 9 or 10 looked up at me and asked if I was the King. Naturally I told him we were visiting just as he was. As I lay in bed the following morning I was looking up at the small canopy over the top of the bed and then to the chandelier thinking I have been treated like a King. Well, we can all dream. Would I recommend - without doubt. I normally give my overall rating on cleanliness and also on value for money. Nunsmere Hall Hotel surpasses all my previous 5 stars hands down.

We as a family group of six visited Nunsmere on the 7th March,we had taken the Travelzoo deal of afternoon tea and accomadation. We arrived at 1pm as the tea was booked for 2 pm,we were greeted by a bowler hatted porter Melvyn who couldbt do enough for us !!
He enquired if our rooms were ready which they were he helped take our luggage to them, the rooms were fanatstic, all three in the loft with lovely views, the rooms all have individual flower names, not the usual boring numbers !!,all being totally individual.
The afternoon tea was great, incuding the glass of prosessco !!
We had also taken offer of an eveing meal booked for 7.30pm,we gathered in the bar area, were we given another glass of prosessco and olives & nuts & menus to choose our meals.
The service & quality & presentaion of the food was excellent,we all feeling very satisfied then retired to our lovely rooms,we gathered for breakfast at 9am which again was great.
As my mother in law, whose 80th it was, summed up the experience, one of the nicest hotels she had ever stayed in !! Thank you all at Nunsmere !!

This is a fabulous location for that extra special occasion and is worth booking. Decor is elegant and gives a feeling of quality and style. The food is of a very high standard and the staff are hard working, friendly and helpful. We went with friends and all six of us want a return visit.
I was hoping to be taken there for Mother's Day but subtle hints have failed to penetrate the impermeable.
They often have value packages on offer so keep a lookout. Simply perfect.

Went here on a friday evening for a 5 course tasting menu and glass of prosecco that was bought as an offer on Travel zoo. Ive never been here before and we arrived at 7.15pm in the dark but the hotel looked very impressive all lit up with a large car park. We were shown to the lounge where we were offered a drink, menus and nibbles which included nuts, cheese straws and some very large ,green olives.
There was only a choice of two different starters, mains and pudding, but they were enough.
We were shown to our table where our new drinks were waiting and we had soup to start. It came in a small expresso coffee cup and was very watery, not really my thing, but the crusty bread was lovely. Our starters were lovely and so too were the mains. We both chose different dishes, but would have been more than happy with either. We both opted for the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious, i could have eaten two! Then we had coffee and three chocolates each, but these were a bit sickly. The drinks were very expensive but expected in a place like this. The staff were very efficient and polite, although i had trouble understanding one of the girls as her accent was very strong. It was a wonderful evening and i would love to go again. We were never made to feel second class as we bought the meal as an offer on the internet and i would really recommend it for special occasions. I eat out a lot and it was a very enjoyable experience and i will definitely go back.

We visited Nunsmere hall hotel restaurant to try the '5 course Taster menu'. We were not disappointed. Both the food and service were of a very high standard. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered the hotel.
The hotel itself is set in beautiful grounds and it is not suprising that it is a popular choice for weddings.
On arrival we were seated in the lounge and offered drinks whilst we perused the menu. We were then taken to our table and had a truly enjoyable evening. We will certainly be going again to try the full Al-a-carte menu.
I would highly recommend this hotel, even if like us, you were just going for a meal.

We stayed with friends on a last minute break. We had booked through an online offer which gave us a four course dinner and afternoon tea. The food was great. We had a lovely mini break. If I was being over critical it would be that some attention to detail was missing for example peeling wallpaper and ripped duvet cover. But overall the hotel is a beautiful building with huge gardens. I would recommend the hotel on a discount deal only for which it is excellent value.

Room Tip: Upgrade to an executive room which are bigger

Travelled with my wife for a Valentine break.
Was met on arrival by the concierge who went out of his way to try to please.
We took lunch as we had arrived early and then went to check in, unfortunately despite bring past 3 o clock the room wasn't ready so we took a stroll.

On return we were shown to our room which was very pleasant but for me a little short of luxury. The furnishings in particular whilst being adequate we're not of a 4 star standard.

Even at 4 pm the housekeeping staff were still on duty cleaning rooms so something was definitely amiss, not aware of any hotel where you shouldn't be able to expect your room to be ready well ahead of this time.

In the evening we dined in the restaurant and I have to say the food was superb and the service excellent.

The breakfast the next morning was also very good with a buffet of cereals and breads and hot food cooked to order.

The bar/lounge was also very pleasant albeit a little small in size and light on staff.

Overall it was a very nice trip and something I old consider repeating.
