“Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Having not visited for over a year, we decided to call and have a late sunday lunch. Surprisingly, for 7pm the pub was very quiet, but we were warmly welcomed shown to our reserved table aside from the bar. We chose the two course set meal deal and had starters of chicken liver pate/prawn salad (A little heavy on the sauce), followed by the roast beef dinner which proved to be very tasty and excellent value. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and can recommend it to you.

“Chinzy Local Pub trying to be something it isn't”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

I read with delight the amount of positive reviews on this pub and decided to go for a family meal as it is not too far away.

At the time I noted it was Number 1 ranked in Northwich (at the time of writing this it has unsurprisingly slipped to number 5).

The truth here is that the is absolutely nothing wrong with the food from the outset. Its nice. Its not amazing and it won't blow you away. If it does, then you haven't eaten before. Equally there is a decent amount on the plate and given what the pub is trying to achieve, beginners in the area of fine dining tend to feel more porcelain over produce makes for a better image.

The biggest problem with this place is timing. It is a locals pub as well as a restaurant and anybody who says there is a lovely garden may well be looking at a very nicely kept bowling green! In fact, if there is a bowls tournament on then you wouldn't want to be in the restaurant area.

Equally, if there are a large family - as there was when we went there - then you can expect them to receive more attention than you do. The amount of time it took for our orders to be taken for both food and drink was terrible. In comparison, you could note the difference in speed and service with the large birthday party.

Finally you are gifted with the bill. If this place ranks as anywhere high in Northwich then it is the cost! A pint of Peroni is around £5 - a meal without starters and only a few drinks for two adults, two teenagers, a five year old and a baby (who both shared a meal) was over £125!

Definitely not worth the money and would not recommend unfortunately to anybody.

“Fantastic Cheshire pub where you are treated like a local”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We visited this lovely pub as a family on New Year's Eve for lunch having had a drink or two here previously in summer, when there is a lovely beer garden. The food was up to its usual high standard - beware the portions are rather large and I needed a nap when I got home! We can particularly recommend the stonking burgers, mushroom pasta and creme brulee. Best of all, the staff are lovely and friendly, nothing is too much trouble and they make you feel like long-term customers. We will definitely be back during 2013.

“A home from a home ......”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

amazing little oldie world pub ..... food was amazing, service impeccable, atmosphere was great, i had hand carved ham, egg and chips, partner had lamb shank, the food was very well presented, tasted absolutely divine, staff were happy to deal with any request, although fatter barman was a bit miserable and only seemed to move at one speed, i visited early on a sunday evening and the place was packed, however the staff were still able to give that little bit extra and made the visit even more enjoyable !! will most certainly be visiting again ......10 / 10 guys

“Nice for a meal but maybe its a pub trying to be a restaurant £££”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

been staying near northwioch for a few weels and found this little place its a pub but maybe one half caters for the drinkers, the main part I assume is for eating .. enjoyed a cracking meal here and enjoyed every bit of it but if you are watching the £ then tread carefully as starters over a fiver and a large glass of wine not much change from same note, mains creeping towards 20 and desserts are high .. it all adds up and extra £1 here £.80p there.
As I say cracking food though, service great (bar the unhappy character behind bar)... great for a cosy meal for 2 if you are splashing out or with friends not a place for children, they are not really catered for... its maybe trying ti be a restaurant and not a pub with food I personally prefer the a latter see my other review for a pub with cracking food in the area and 4 fed with dessert & drinks for less than 50.00
