“Death warmed up”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

What can I say,we have just moved in to Hartford and thought a quick look at the 'local' was in hand. We ordered our drinks and waited whilst the landlord chatted away on the phone without so much as a please thank you or nothing from him only a demand for money which was way over the top of other local pubs. A diet coke consisted of a dirty glass filled from a 2 litre bottle in front of us and no sign of ice or even a straw.

The locals are not exactly welcoming either, it really does feel like your walking into someone's living room, ( basil faulty's maybe).

I'll put up with most places when you get a please and thank you but this was dreadful.

Try the weatsheaf in weaverham for a truely warm welcome

If your time in sleepy Hartford, coincides with your life hitting rock bottom, then the Red Lion is the pub for you. The red lion was at one point the best pub in Hartford (a choice of 2) however since the renovation of The Coachman it pales into a distant second. The land lord and the locals combine to suck any life out of a charming if a little dated pub. The bar staff are as unfriendly as the locals which combines to make a pub suitable only for those willing to drink away their few remaining years.

we have stayed at The Red Lion quite a few times now and cannot fault the place. It has a fantastic atmosphere, the rooms are kept very clean. The pub food is excellent and an exremely competitive price, very good value. It is in a quiet village close to all the main routes. The landlord and landlady are extremely friendly, welcoming and have a wicked sense of humour.

Would definitely recommend the Red Lion to anyone wishing to stay in Cheshire.

Stayed here for the second time this year, this is a lovely traditional English pub, beautiful open fire and a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the owners go out of there way to make sure that you have a very pleasant stay, nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are very clean and the breakfast was lovely. Look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: I've stayed in two of the three rooms and they were both lovely and immaculate.

We had a good welcome on arrival and room appeared to be clean and presentable. The bedroom and en suite walls had recently been painted and the doors looked new. However, there was a smell of stale cigarettes which was not pleasant for non-smokers and the carpet was grubby and stained. The skirting boards in the en suite were also grubby and the shower cubicle had black deposits around some of the grouting and door.

Breakfast was disappointing. There was orange juice but otherwise no fruit offered. The egg was rather greasy and the coffee appeared to be instant.

Old style pub with accomodation above. Owners very welcoming and friendly. Pub area has a nice atmosphere. Rooms upstairs were clean and well equiped. Nights stay rounded off with a good full english breakfast. A very comfortable b&b.
