we have been going here for approximately 3 years metting up with the in laws on a 6 weekly basis. the service and food is very variable. the staff considerably more so, the last time we went in was a mid week evening, we went to leave walking past the kitchen to hear the largest vocabulary of swear words possibly after having one of our more mediocre meals. its a real shame out first half a dozen times were very pleasing and the food fantastic.

Back in 2009, this was a great pub, atmosphere, food and service. Now into 2013 and the service and food have gone downhill. Such a difference to how it used to be. No, I won't be going back. Staff are young trainees that kept apologising for getting things wrong. As a family of 3, we ordered starters, one of which didn't come complete with all that was promised. Then an hour wait for the main meal (when it wasn't particulary busy) and food arrived was cheap beef (featherblade) which had been warmed up and vegatables were unedible and a chicken burger was a large chicken nuggest covered in grease. Such a shame, given how good it was in its day and view of the canal in a summer really makes the place; although in winter, it can be cold as the radiators are turned down. I could not recommend this pub with the current management in place.

Booked a table via phone the day before for 1pm. Arrived to be told somebody else was using the table. After 15 mins were given another able and ordered drinks and food. After 50 mins food still not arrived. After trying to attract staff, finally got 4 out of the 5 meals. 10 mins later the missing meal arrived. Food quality was appalling , well overcooked and obviously been waiting on a warming plate for a long time.
It was a nice sunny day (17th Feb), so the pub was busy, but there wasnt enough staff. After being a regular patron, we will not be going back for long time, there are many other better organised establishments nearby.

My wife and i use the Riverside on a regular basis. We enjoyed our Christmas meal there for the second year running. The quality of food and service is excellent. Meals are reasonably priced.

We had dined at the riverside inn twice previously on week days and had generalky been satisfied with the experience. We dined on a sunday afternoon after inviting the extended family to visit and had the moat shocking service ever imaginable. We waited almost an hour from ordering our roast dinners and after asking twice where they were finally they appeared. The meal itaelf was substandard with barely any meat and what meat there was was grizzly. After finishing our mains we waited for another half an hour and no one came to clear our plates or take our desert orders. When we requested our table cleared they came and cleared it and rudely asked are we having desserts or not. As it was jncluding in the roast dinner offer it seemed silly not to but again we were left and had to again enquire how much longer the desserts would be which were promptly brought out by what appeared to be the manager who announced he had made them himself as the chef was too busy and the delay was due to him giving a statement to a police officer that was conducted in the middle of the pub for everyone to see. We went to the bar to pay for the meal after waiting for a waitress to come over which again never happened and suggested they may need more staff. We were treated extremely rudely by the young girl serving who said theyve had no complaints today. We pointed out that the lady who had just paid her was complaining about her meal and she stated no she just didnt read the menu properly. We had our change thrown at us after spending in excess of £100 and the till slammed loudly behind us as we left. Never again!!!
