“An interesting display of Northwich's salt heritage”
Review of Weaver Hall Museum

The museum is set in the former Northwich workhouse & really it is more about that than the salt heritage. However there is an interesting room with good displays about the industry. It is a good place to take children to learn Victorian schooling.
It does not cost a fortune to go in, so we were glad that we went but expected a bit more about salt production.

I have lived locally all my life (41 years) and don't remember ever visiting here but it must have been on the list at primary school! It is now called weaver hall museum and encompasses the salt museum, waterways, vale royal Abby, history of the town and some Saxon information. I really enjoyed it.

Any visitor to Northwich seeking to know of it's raison d'etre has to overcome the recent renaming of the Salt Museum and wonder - Why? - when Northwich is the Home of Salt in the UK and the origin of ICI (now AstraZenica equally wondering - Why?) and Weaver Hall nothing more than sadly a former 'Workhouse' - interesting as that may be - but common place throughout the land - unlike Northwich itself - Unique?.

Interesting museum telling the history of the salt mining in the area. Small cafe, friendly staff. Questionnaire/quiz for children (and adults) to keep their interest. At the most this is a two-hour visit.
