Having been to the Hanging Gate just up the road and being disappointed we were a bit wary of this place, how foolish were we, this place was absolutely brilliant. The food is amazing and the quirky parts where you can have a snack whilst waiting for your food is very novel and something we hadn't seen before. We have now been three times and I can truly say we've never been disappointed once. I think the only downside is the fact you can't book a table so if they are busy you either have to wait or go elsewhere. This is a must go place for anyone who enjoys their grub.

Can not in anyway recommend this place. Ordered the fish sharing platter and we waited for over 40 mins for it to arrive even though the place was quiet. The bread was dry and the small individual - portion jar of mayonnaise we were given had already been opened and partly used. The mackerel pate was full of large pieces of raw onion which we hadn't expected.
When we finished the meal (or the bits we ate of it) - I reread the menu and realised we had been given no smoked salmon or garlic mayonnaise as advertised. When we mentioned this to the lady behind the bar she seemed surprised as both items were in the kitchen apparently. Sadly, they didn't make it to our plate! Don't think we will be making a return visit.

We recently visited the Hazel Pear for Sunday lunch and had a very enjoyable meal. They don't allow you to book on a Sunday so we deliberately arrived just before 1pm and were offered a wide choice of tables. The food was good, the service was good and the portions were very generous. The pub became very busy quite quickly and it took a little while for our desserts to arrive but that didn't really concern us. Very enjoyable overall.

We visited The Hazel Pear on a Saturday evening for dinner, the place was very busy and there was a great atmosphere.
The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly on our arrival and showed us to our table and offered to take our drinks order, which I declined, instead heading to the bar to see the extensive range of ales on offer. Of the 3 I tried they were all well kept and the staff very knowledgeable about their provenance.
The meal took a little while to arrive, but not an unreasonable time considering the number of people in the pub, we were quite happy chatting away anyway! The food was definitely worth the wait. I had a ribeye steak (cooked perfectly rare) with chips and onion rings (both of which were homemade and crispy, not in the slightest bit greasy). The presentation was also excellent, with a watercress garnish and the steak nestled under the onion rings atop to substantial portion of chips.
The price was very reasonable considering we all had 3 drinks each along with our food.
I would definitely visit again, either for a Sunday roast or midweek lunch.

Went along to The Hazel Pear on recommendations from other Trip Advisor members. Was not disappointed.

Pub was lovely, service was second to none with very polite and friendly staff.

Food was excellent, varied with our party having steak, lamb chump, pie and a turkey Sunday dinner. All beautifully presented and tasted fab.

We will defiantly go back again.
