We use this site a lot but have never before felt compelled write a review!!

We Visited here last night a very cold Tuesday night and were greeted with a warm friendly smile and a roaring log fire. We ordered our drinks, settled ourselves down and looked at menu. Everything seemed appealing but we both ordered steak & chips. Comfort food for such a cold evening. My husband likes his medium but I like mine well done. They were both cooked to perfection and accompanied by beefy chips and beautifully cooked, very fresh tomatoes on the vine. Didn't for a minute think I was going to get to see the bottom of the plate but it was so divine I couldn't leave any. The desserts were good and hearty too, we opted for chocolate brownie which came with a delicious hot chocolate sauce. Dispite it being heavenly we didn't manage to finish it all. Compliments to the chef!! The service was excellent and all in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The surroundings were impeccable and unrecognisable from what was there before. Looking for a negative to be constructive; it's difficult to find one but of pushed I'd have to say lack of something lighter on dessert menu. Given its january and freezing cold that's kinda understandable.

This is a great place to eat. We visited on a Saturday with friends, were quickly seated and our drinks within minutes even though they were busy. We settled on the seafood platter for nibbles, which was beautiful, eight types of fish and seafood very attractively presented and more than enough between four of us! Our mains were just as good, an enormous t bone perfectly cooked with wonderful chips, two breams, again perfectly cooked in a delicious langoustine broth and a very tasty, inventive and filling 'mutton dressed as lamb' - a crockpot of mutton and breast of lamb together. We just couldn't manage a desert but they looked lovely, particularly the platter. The service was great, Matt looked after our table throughout and nothing was too much trouble. If you want restaurant food in a cosy pub (other reviewers have mentioned the refurb and it looks great), then this is the place to go.

Very good renovation, very nice room at the rear with a lovely roaring fire, pity about the fires in the lounge / dining areas, the staff seem unable to master the wood burning stoves!

Excellent choice of food, over priced for the area and type of restaurant, good choice of real ales, my pint of Sharps Doom Bar lost it's head after a few minutes.

Staff are extremely attentive, pity about the bossy Landlady!

Over the Christmas Period, I vistited The Hazel and Pear on two seperate occasions, once with family and once with friends. Firstly, i'd like to echo those who have commented previously; the renovation that has been completed is to an excellent standard- cosy and comfortable. The food was simply devine and at a high standard on both visits. The desert platter is heavenly, i would recommend it to anyone willing to listen. The service was great! The staff were all lovely and extremely helpful, very smiley and well trained!!! The uniform is not traditional but looks smart and trendy. The fact that we had to go to the bar to order meant that the service we recieved was more personal- an improvment on waitress service!! I'm looking forward to my next visit!!

We visited the Hazel Pear last night and I was very impressed with the makeover the old place has had.
We were welcomed by a member of staff and allowed to choose where we would like to sit, and after being asked if we wanted to dine menu's were brought over.
The only down side is that you have to go to the bar to order your meal but as we were only two it was not too great a problem, however a large party would be different.
When you are being charged restaurant prices, it would be nice to have a waiter take your order.
The service was very good, however they were not busy by that time.
The food we had was fine apart from the fact that they had run out of vegetables due apparently to a busy Sunday Lunch trade.
We will probably go back to sample the menu again, in the hope that they will not have run out of anything next time.
I would recommend that you give the Hazel Pear a try, I don't think they will disappoint you.
