Although we had visited for a drink in the bar many times since "Curshaws" became "The Cat", this was the first time that we had eaten. The food was great from the starters of mushrooms in cream and garlic, to whitebait, to shrimp cocktail to a fillet steak and burgers - it was all fab, the ingredients were excellent and the portions generous. The fillet steak was perfectly cooked and so lean, the burgers were huge, one of our friends had his burger rare, you have got to be sure of your ingredients if you are prepared to serve up almost raw meat – they clearly use only the best quality!.

The only thing that grated on us slightly was the fact that our waitress felt the need to remind us that the tipping rules had changed recently and explained the difference between adding the tip on when paying by card as opposed to leaving cash. We didn’t feel that we needed to be reminded.

That said, I would highly recommend The Cat, the quality of the food was excellent!

I like Curshaws despite having eaten here twice! What I mean is if you think of it as a lively weekend pub - and not a place to eat, you will be fine - I think it extends itself by trying to be a restaurant upstais and pub down stairs - the food isnt great and they have packed too many tables in so when they are busy there is long waiting times and inevitable errors. So call in to enjoy one of the oldest buildings in nantwich - a former convent i (think) - but more recently and nightclub (The Cheshire Cat) known to locals at "The Cat" - They have refurbished it well and it is nice enough to chat over a drink with mates.

Amazing old traditional place with nice lagers. Tall people must keep their heads down, low beams! Nice little patio area. Weekends are very busy, take your time to get the drinks in! The upper area is cosy for nice meals.

OK - we gave this place a few chances - and had issues every time with service (took AGES!!!) or rude staff (and that's the management! The other waiting staff were lovely.)
On the weekend the bar downstairs gets very busy and noisy. If that's what you want it's great, but forget the food.
