The food is fantastic, hotel is good place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful and will go above and beyond the call of duty - highly recommended.
The place has an old building feeling with a modern twist and lively at the weekend!!
Nantwich is an idyliic town to visit and the Cat is the place to stay.

I have never been compelled to write a review before now, but I just have to warn other travellers to avoid staying in this hotel over a weekend. The hotel's website states that 'at weekends you can expect a lively bar' but it doesn't say anything about the nightclub directly next door...

After a couple of hours of noise - loud music and shouting from the people drinking in the busy smoking area directly beneath the hotel rooms - we finally complained to reception at around 12.30am when we were assured the area would be cleared by 1.15am. Not ideal, but we could live with it. At 1.30am the noise was even worse and upon calling reception again, we were told that it was now coming from the club next door and there was nothing that could be done about it. At this point, we requested a new room (although I am not convinced the noise would have been any better anywhere else in the building) but were told they were fully booked, and again, there was nothing they could do. We were kept wide awake until after 3am when the noise finally stopped. We are a young couple and live in central London, so we can certainly live with a certain amount of noise, so please believe me when I say there was absolutely no way that anyone could have slept through this - even with earplugs.

On checking out, the very nice female clerk was apologetic and explained they had given us a little money off our room. We appreciated the gesture, but since we skipped breakfast in favour of an extra half hour's sleep before our early start, it was no loss to them.

I am sure this hotel would be fine for a mid-week stay. There were other things about it that I didn't like, but that certainly wouldn't have driven me to write this review, but the noise was really, truly unacceptable.

My husband and I have stayed here before and really enjoyed our stay so decided to return for our anniversary and booked the Octagon Suite. On arrival we were welcomed by the extremely helpful staff who went out of their way to go above and beyond. We enjoyed lunch in the wonderfully comfortable bar and dinner in the Italian restaurant across the road (I believe this is linked to the hotel), both were amazing. Although the restaurant was fully booked when we requested a table they still managed to accommodate later in the evening. The suite itself was fabulous and with great food and such first class friendly service I can say we will most definitely be returning again.

On arrival we wre greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room. First impressions were cold, dark and small. It wasn't as clean as I would have liked (water marks on the taps etc) but I have quite high standards so didn't worry about it. The darkness and size we could cope with, it's an old place with small leaded windows so it's always going to be an issue. However the coldness was not good. We closed the windows, turned up the thermostat and set about looking for radiators. There were none! Having left the room for two hours we returned hoping it would have warmed up - this wasn't the case, even with the thermostat on 25 for two hours solid. So after having a drink we spoke to someone at reception who said they would see what they could do. We returned to our room to wait....
A cold hour later my partner went to find someone to talk to again. We were told the heating was underfloor, they couldn't move us as they were fully booked and if we wanted to check out that was fine and we couldn't be charged. Interestingly when I went on various different hotel websites including the Cheshire Cat's own, I was told that there were several superior rooms available and one standard one! We had a feel of the floor and managed so find a small warm patch under the sink in the bathroom. Descision made! On checking out no appologies were made and they didn't seem particilarly bothered that we were leaving. We instead went to a premier inn and had a lovely warm night and spent our money on their food and drink instead. My advice, don't bother! There are nicer places for less and with far friendler and more courteous staff, and this place almost ruined what was supposed to be a romantic weekend for my fiance's birthday.

Hello Ms Griffiths, we've been expecting your review! Although you were clearly unhappy with the temperature of your room on Saturday I would like to point out that the thermostat is set to an ambient 25 degrees and this is usually more than warm enough for our guests. You comment on the lack of radiators but as you were politely told at the time we have underfloor heating throughout the hotel and therefore no requirement for radiators.
Although we tried our very best to remedy the situation for you we were fully booked in the hotel so did not have an alternative room to offer you and as you still weren't happy with the temperature of the room after your drinks there really was no other option but to seek alternative accommodation. We subsequently re-booked the room later on in the evening to a customer who was more than happy with the room, the temperature and their stay.

On arrival we checked in and was taken to a room which was not even made up and smelt of sick. The member of staff was very apologetic and gave us complementry drink which we kindly accepted, A fresh room was sort and was clean & fresh, power shower was a nice touch. breakfast was one of the worst i have ever endured
poached eggs which were cold and hard.bacon cooked on the griddle from the previous nights steak, sausage half cooked as were the tomatoes beans okay hash browns swimming in grease mushrooms inedable. fresh fruit was kept in fridge. and we had to ask for a portion which came 25mins after asking for it. you May ask your self was it busy ?,no a family of three was in thier who were also dissapointed.the waitress seemed to be rushed off her feet i can only imagine she must have been helping get Sunday lunch ready.we did mention to the waitress that egg was inedable.which she kindly replaced
and asked if we had enjoyed our Brekfast of course the answer was NO. when checking out we advised the desk that chief needs to book his/her ideas up as we were very disapointed .The gentleman did take note and made his apoliges. Lovely building nice staff & tried to be attentive..Food -10 for breakfast. shame

Hello Gemma. I've tried to take some positives from your review and so am pleased that you liked our building and found the staff to be nice and attentive. The breakfast was obviously a big disappointment to you and for that I can only apologise. We have many, many compliments on our cooked breakfasts from both hotel residents and from our regular customers coming in for breakfast throughout the week. On speaking with the Duty Manager you made your disappointment known and he did his level best to rectify the situation for you. Once again, please accept our apologies.

We went for Sunday tea last night, a lovely welcome from behind the bar and also upon entering restaurant. Complimentary bread a nice touch, the attentiveness of the staff let the place down as had to ask for our order to be taken, had to ask for more drinks-all our glasses were empty, but when we spoke to the staff they were very chatty, friendly and engaging. A slight wait for our food but it was a delicious Sunday tea, I had roast pork, plenty of meat and veg, couldn't quite eat it all as so full! Had no room for dessert! We then went back to the bar to chill out, dirty glasses were all around and no one cleared them until late on, once again we all had empty glasses and should of a staff member come by we would of had another round of drinks. Overall lovely food and friendly staff but the lack of attention to detail let the Cheshire Cat down.

Hi Becca, thank you for your review. It's really good to see your were welcomed warmly and enjoyed our lovely Sunday Set Menu lunch. I'm really disappointed that you felt let down by the lack of attention to detail in terms of offering you more drinks and ensuring glassware is cleared as quickly as possible. This is something we are working really hard on with our new management team and I hope that on your next visit you will notice a marked improvement and have a thoroughly enjoyable time.
