Our fourth visit to Alvaston but our first time in a royale room. It is worth up grading but only if you can get a deal as we don't feel it is worth paying the full price.
Food was excellent and the service was very efficient throughout the hotel.
My wife used the facilities at the spa and was very pleased with her treatment. We also made use of the leisure facilities which seem to be very under used by the hotel guests.
The evening entertainment was as good as ever with Bob Roberts and the team putting on an excellent show on Sunday night.
The only disappointing aspect is that they have cut down on the number of daytime
activities, therefore not much to do if the weather is not good other than spend money in the rather expensive bar.
Will return again in the future.

My wife and I spent a most enjoyable Christmas at Alvaston where the service from booking in to saying cheerio was excellent. Our 'signature' room was large and comfy but, with outside temperatures well below freezing, was cold until we were supplied with additional heating. In normal weather conditions Alvaston is well situated for driving to local tourist spots such as Chester whilst, within the hotel and grounds, there are plenty of amenities to occupy all guests. The resident team and their manager, Bob Roberts, are providers of top class entertainment as are the guest artistes who visit each evening. Christmas is a time for lots of eating and there was plenty of mouth watering food throughout our stay served by Debbie and her pleasant, efficient staff. We liked most things at Alvaston but, and there is always one of those, maybe table cloths would be more in keeping in the restaurant rather than plain wooden tables. Before we left we, and many others, booked for the Christmas Break in 2011.

Just returned from a three day break with my wife. I was a bit worried having read some rather negative reviews but I have to say the location and service was great. We upgraded to a signature room which was spacious, clean and well equipped and furnished.
Food was first class although the service was a bit haphazard for the table service, at times.
I cannot comment on the facilities and the entertainment as we both suffered from flu during our stay and spent most of our time in the room.
Would I recommend the break? Definitely.
Would we stay again ? Again no question, but next time we'd like to leave our travelling companions, the flu bug family at home !!

Just returned from a wonderful weekend.Fabulous food, lots of choice and served
piping hot. The entertainment was excellent ,music singers and dancers were first class with five star performances. All the staff are polite, friendly, efficient and so accommodating. All the Hotel facillites were spotless. The V.I.P package we took (for a small extra fee ) was very well managed, from the private personal check in to the champagne and cocktails on arrival and departure. The dining experience was also fabulous, linen napkins and tablecloth, with personal service at your table from which to view the caberet. We will definately be going back again.

We have just returned after a 3 day twixmas break at alverston hall, and had a lovely time. as it was a belated 50th birthday treat we booked a royale room, and so glad we did we checked in and were shown to our private parking place by the hotel porter then shown to our room.
The room was large with a huge bed that was so comfortable, we had port, chocolates, fruit.a nice whirlpool bath everything we could want.We found all the staff very welcoming and in the evening w were shown to our table for the duration of our stay.To be honest it was a little small and the chairs werent that comfortable but you dont have to stay there all night plenty of lovely areas to sit and have a tipple. to be honest it would be wrong to complain on only this yes the other guests were over 65 but hey didnt bother us we had a great time.BUT glad we paid the extra for the room. The food was great so was the food in the coffee shop. I had a facial as a treat was a little expensive but the staff were lovely. nice surroundings nice to be child free.

As previous poster, we too were spoken to quite rudely by the porter. The only road directions are on the road, which was covered with wet leaves and in the pouring rain we did not see the one way system directions. We just put his bad manners down to the fact he was out in the pouring rain and having a bad day! People like him won't spoil my good mood, but he does not give a good first impression.
We had an ambassador + room in main house, at top of 2 flights of stairs. When we booked it we thought we had booked a room at the end of a corridor so there would be no passing traffice to disturb sleep, however the room was directly at the top of the stairs! However, there was no noise disturbance and we slept very well. Rooms very warm but able to control heating with no difficulties. We found food to be of a very good standard, most of the meals I had were from the kitchen and not from the buffet, but my husband had buffet food and really enjoyed it. Entertainment was not so good on first night, the Ronan Keating sound alike seemed to lose the audience and there was a lot of talking while he was on, Re Take Thant were very good on Saturday and the inhouse team good on Sunday. The leisure pool/jacuzzi etc is lovely and warm but the area is a bit tired looking now and needing a refurb. Overall we had a relaxing break which is the whole point. Had afternoon tea on Sunday, buy one (it costs around £8) and it is enough for 2, just buy an extra cup of tea/coffee, and this replaced lunch and was very good in our opinion, but I love clotted cream!! Have done several warner breaks and this was as good as expected.
