“Excellent stay, fab food, stunning spa”
Reviewed March 26, 2010

A well needed one night stay with a girlfriend, booked to relax and unwind away from 2 toddlers. We were in the old part of the hotel, room was spacious and clean, would have preferred the more modern rooms but the twin room was well laid out and the beds were 3 quarter size which was a nice bonus as opposed to some twin rooms where the beds are only singles.

The spa is very professional and well laid out. The pool area and jacuzzi are lovely and feel very relaxed. Spa treatments needs to be pre booked and we can recommend the food in the spa area as well. There is a fab relaxation room in the spa which has a feature water wall, it didn't take us long to nod off.

Dinner in the evening was 1st class, great choice on both menus and the service was great. We like to think we are foodies and the meals did not disappoint. Breakfast was also good.

Check in/out was smooth and I would certainly re book to go back.

4.5 stars!

We had a very pleasant stay at Rookery Hall. Our room was in the new part and was lovely. We booked an executive room and on check in we asked if a larger family room was available & we were upgraded. The Reception staff were all very friendly & helpful - we found the Spa staff not quite so helpful.

Be warned - the Spa is very busy so if you want treatments make sure you book well in advance.

Our evening meal was lovely - ask for a table in the Oak Restaurant which is the old part and is nicer. Breakfast was ok - we went down about 9am on a Saturday and there was no smoked haddock left. The porridge was cold & black pudding over cooked & hard.

The tv in the bathroom was a great touch - nice to relax in the bath and catch up on the news. There is a dvd player in the room and you can borrow dvds from reception to watch.

We would certainly return!

my husband and i booked our first weekend away without the children in a very long time and so wanted somewhere special .... at Rookery Hall we got it.
The hotel is wecoming, cosy, peaceful and the pool and spa area is quite new and very clean
All the staff were excellent but a special mention for the restaurant manager who was friendly and very efficient and helped make our stay that bit more special.
Would we return? Definatly!

We have been to Rookery Hall to eat on several occasions during the last 6 years and couldn't fault it, so we decided to go there for a special birthday. My wife booked the table for Friday Feb 26 at 8pm some 2 weeks previous
We arrived at 7.50pm and sent our taxi away until 10.30pm. We reported to the restaurant and were told quite succintly that there was no record of our reservation and that they did not cater for non residents at weekends. We then had to wait for our taxi to return and were basically ignored by all the hotel staff
There was no attempt to put their mistake right and were in fact quite rude. We will be complaining in writing to the manager and will never go there again.

We have just spent our 1st Wedding Anniversary at Rookery Hall and had a lovely stay. The executive double rooms in the new building are lovely, the staff are very polite and the service was excellent. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and we couldnt fault anything we ate or drank. We had breakfast twice and 2 evening meals and the quality of the food and service was excellent. The chocolate and pistachio dessert was stunning!

Our only critisism was the noise in the pool and breakfast room. There were quite a few families staying and the pool was just like a leisure centre on a saturday afternoon, if we had booked a spa weekend I wouldnt have been impressed. Breakfast on sunday morning was supposed to be relaxing but with noisy kids running about we couldnt wait to eat and leave, monday morning was much more enjoyable! I suppose this isnt Rookerys fault, but perhaps this is something they need to bear in mind when people are paying quite a lot of money to stay - they dont want to be disturbed by other peoples kids running about the corridors at 10am. However despite this we still had a wonderful and enjoyable time.

We would go back to Rookery and are looking forward to planning a future trip.

Stayed at the hotel in January for my 40th birthday. At check in Laura was extremely helpful and polite. My husband had booked an Executive Room for two nights - the first night being at a special DBB rate, the second night we paid full price so we could stay in the same room. We were shown to an Executive Room in the old main building - we were extremely disappointed, the room was small, very dark and the furnishing dismal. Not happy at all as the room looked nothing like the executive rooms on the website. My husband phoned down to reception and spoke to Laura. She came up to our room and offered to show us another room in an annex. These rooms are the ones you see on the website, modern and comptemporary with the TV in the bathroom should you want that! We much preferred this room so Laura and the porter went back to our initial room and brought out luggage to our new room. The birthday card and 4 chocolates in the room were a very nice touch!

Restaurant very traditonal oak panelled, good attentive service, food could of been warmer but generally an acceptable meal in an award winning restaurant. Had coffee round the real fire in the lounge - very enjoyable and relaxing. Prices for wine at the bar very expensive over £9.00 for a glass of Chardonnay!

Spa and Leisure facilities first class - they are located in a separate building. Children only allowed to use the pool upto a certain time so excellent for an adult only evening in the pool.

Couldn't fault the staff Laura and Earl were particularly helpful - many thanks!

Only criticism is that the breakfast room decor and furniture were dreadful - who ever painted the lovely plaster work on the ceiling the same insipid pale green as the rest of the room should be shot coupled with the red and black carpet - not a choice I would of made for the interior of such a regal room - please, please redecorate! THEY ALSO USED THIS ROOM FOR THE OVERFLOW FROM THE RESTAURANT SO IF YOU WANT TO DINE IN THE OAK PANELLED ROOM MAKE SURE YOU REQUEST THIS ROOM WHEN MAKING YOUR DINNER RESERVATION!
