we went here last week as we noticed it was number one on trip advisor as weve been trying different places as were new to the area.
The food seemd a good deal in price but wasnt really as it seemed microwaved and stale- more like motorway services that gastro. The steak was fatty and tasted more like liver which im sure is a sign of going off meat- my husband had fish and chips but we think this was bought as had no taste or look of fresh fish.
The pub itself was closed in the afternoon when we first arrived( who closes afterlunch?) so we went as soon as they opened in the evening.
The staff seemed more intrested in organising some sort of entertainment than actually looking after us.
beer was ok but the wine glass filthy.
Nice place- if your desperate.

We sought out the Narrowboat because of all the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor, but we must have caught it on a very bad day. We ordered two gammon steaks from the specials board, only to be told that they had sold out - at 7.30 on a Friday night !!! So we ordered a beef curry with rice at £7.95 and a fish and chips with mushy peas at £8.95. We had to send the beef curry back (something I've never done before) because the beef was undercooked, tough and inedible. We asked for a soup and roll instead only to be told there was no soup available. The fish and chips were OK although they were served with garden peas, not mushy peas, but at £8.95. not great value.
The landlady was lovely and very apologetic, and gave us the price of the curry back with no hesitation, but if this restaurant is rated number 1 in Middlewich I fear for the visiting public.
