Visited as part of a group of 6 for my friends birthday.
Think the Edwardian theme is a cover up for the out of date feel and smell of the place.

The only asset to the place was the waitress - who was the only visible member of staff!

Given it was a weekend night, to be in an almost empty restaurant (one other table of three) seemed a bit surprising to say the least.

To be told that you can only order the Red and White wine by the glass when all you want is to order a small glass of Rose for a pregnant friend to have with her birthday meal is just downright strange.

Not so much as a happy birthday for the birthday girl, and serving up partially raw chicken was all a bit too much to take in one evening.

This place could be amazing, I'm not a fussy person to please, but I did feel this whole experience was one I'd rather forget.

We visited The Sandhurst restaurant as a group of 6 for a friends birthday party. I'm already a huge fan of a restaurant in Middlewich so was disappointed not to be visiting their instead but open minded about this visit as assumed it would be something special and memorable with the unusual Edwardian theme. We arrived to find a damp 'Nana's house' type smell and one of two draft lager pumps not working so chose the Bitburger over the unavailable Carling. We then entered the restaurant to find it empty other than a table for 3 people who appeared happy to see other people dining. We ordered and service by the waitress was excellent other than a little slow regarding drink orders, but I feel this is more due to the fact she appeared to the only one on duty having to visit the kitchen, the restaurant and a the bar in a different room. Starters, deserts and coffee were all very nice, but we were very disappointed with the mains! They come as a sharing platter/board and thankfully instead of sharing with my wife, I shared with a friend while my wife shared with his wife. I say thankfully as we chose the chicken which came as 2 chicken breasts and a big chicken leg/thigh, only for me and my friend to eat the breasts and then decide against the thigh as, after picking it up off the board and see blood, we turned the piece over only to find lots of raw, uncooked chicken with oozing blood - considering both our wives are pregnant we immediately were please that we'd eaten the previous pieces of chicken instead!!!

We decided not to make a scene but would at the very least say something which we did to find a very apologetic response from the waitress who was very lovely, but were very surprised after she took it back to the kitchen that we received no apology from the chef or any manager of any sort. Considering at this point we were the only people in the otherwise empty restaurant we came quickly to the conclusion that the chef either didn't care or maybe didn't want us to see him in his Edwardian outfit! The waitress was told she could offer a free drink as compensation... This stunned us considering the serious nature of raw chicken and lack of apology and surprised we weren't asked if we even wanted a replacement piece of chicken as, after all, this was a big part of our meal for 2 people and the sharing bowl of potatoes and veg was itself already limited in portion size. Still, there would be a small piece of birthday cake for everyone to share -if- any cake had been brought out which it wasn't. Even an Edwardian "Happy Birthday" song might have brought some smiles back to our table but alas this didn't happen either even though they knew we were there as birthday party as "birthday girl" had been mentioned by the waitress already.

To be honest this whole Edwardian theme just wasn't my thing and not quite sure who if anyone (judging by the empty restaurant) finds that it is there thing so I applaud the fact that they are trying to use Groupon to gain some new clientele, but definitely think that the service and food needs serious revision and improvement if I was to ever be interested in returning again. The lack of professional apology for serving raw chicken however and a replacement drink to resolve will no doubt prevent me from doing so though...

Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologise about the chicken. However, as always the chicken was probed and read 78 degrees as per food hygiene regulations and therefore we cannot understand why this occurred. In addition, if this had been brought to our attention during the meal itself, as opposed to when the meal was finished, we could have dealt with this issue immediately.

Regarding the birthday, had there have been a birthday cake provided, we would have been more happy to present the cake and sing happy birthday.

Kind regards
The Sandhurst team

Stayed at the Sandhurst in June this year for two nights when on business in Middlewich. Rowena and her staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. I received a very warm welcome and was shown to my charming period room on the first floor. Very comfortable bed and great facilities. Nice little biscuits to have with my coffee was a very nice touch! In the evening I had a lovely meal in the restaurant - lager was on tap and I had a delicious curry. Full English breakfast was extremely well cooked with a choice of white or brown toast. I received very attentive prompt service with offers of extra toast and coffee if required. The next day was no different with great evening meal and a super breakfast the next day. Rowena should be very proud of the family atmosphere she generates in the hotel. i will definitely be back later in the year!!

We held our wedding ceremony and reception at The Sandhurst on the Saturday 19th July 2014. The atmosphere was relaxed and Mediterranean, just as we planned and the Greek meze / buffet was absolutely delicious, plentiful and superb value for money. A perfect and memorable day for us, our family and close friends followed by a wedding breakfast the following morning. A huge thank you to Rowena and staff for providing a superb venue for we couldn't have chosen anywhere better. A special thank you to Neil for his excellent culinary skills.

We stayed here earlier this year. We booked in for an authentic Edwardian experience with a "Black Friday Voucher", for the meal. we were very disappointed. We were made to feel like very inferior guests, (probably due to the voucher - I assume!). The bar had some very authentic Edwardian looking cobwebs and they had run out of house red, the night we stayed so, they - very begrudgingly- opened another bottle of red, as a huge favour! The evening meal, itself was lovely. Beautifully cooked and served to us by a young girl, who couldn't have done more for us. To our surprise we had to order our breakfast before we had our evening meal. The breakfast was luke warm and swimming in grease with very cheap sausages - extremely unpleasant! The room, itself, was very basic, which was extremely disappointing, as we expected the Edwardian theme to be consistent throughout the hotel! The shower tray was cracked and there was no soap in the bathroom! We were horrified to see the state of the mattress when we pulled back the sheets in the morning. Not the cleanest of places and not the most pleasant of receptions. We definitely won't be visiting again!!!!!!

Stayed one night in July when attending a family wedding. It was good to be able to fall into bed after the festivities finished. The hotel was exclusively used by the wedding, so it was difficult to assess just how the experience would have been as a solo traveller. The "welcome" seemed a little stressed but I put that down to the wedding and bad weather helping to make plans requiring change. Overall, the event went well and the owner and staff worked tirelessly to make the day special. The building and contents are great for anyone with an interest in the Edwardian era. It is like visiting a museum, which was good. The "apartment" we had may not have been representative of the main house rooms but everything looked like it could have been freshened up. Generally, it was clean enough but tired looking and giving the appearance of not being thoroughly cleaned. Food in the evening was set for the wedding but it was very well presented and tasty enough. The breakfast was good and I was impressed that the ordered "vegetarian" full English was delivered perfectly.

Room Tip: If you like to open a window at night, I suggest asking for a rear room as the road out the front ca...
