“Avoid room 19”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Hotel clean if basic, staff friendly. Avoid room 19 as it is impossible for more than one person to sleep in the double bed. The mattress actually tipped my husband onto the floor which is where he decided it was more comfortable to spend the night.

Room Tip: Avoid being put in room 19.

Its not a 4star hotel, but then it doesn't pretend to be one. Stayed here a few times, as been working away and for what you pay, i thought its well worth it. The food isnt amazing by any standard, but then again u dont expect fine dining for how much you spend on the room, but the staff are very friendly, and helpful and always on hand to have laugh n joke, and make you feel welcome.
Room was clean, and had a good sleep, bar and dining area again clean enough for me and had no problems or complaints :-)

Most impressed. Room was comfortable, shower worked well and food was fine. Staff helpful and friendly. This is not the Ritz, but for a stopover at about half the price of nearest Premier Inn, I was very pleased indeed.

Booked through late rooms so yes got a room under £40 and yes last minute booking and yes the receptionist was helpful with directions to the local curry house - but that's essentially where the similarities to a decent hotel end..
It's a bit dated, rooms are small ( I had a single on the ground floor the size of a travelodge bathroom) and noisy ( walls ad paper thin and being Crewe, you get all sorts walking about having had a few beers by 12 until about 3) so don't bank on getting some sleep. I arrived late and left early thankfully - but plans for some decent zzzz's ruined by the 20 or so ( sounded like) Northern lads next door returning from some beers and chatting to their mates out the window.
I've travelled a lot so I'm not precious about the odd bit of noise or odd poor standard as you do get that even in a 5 star - but this place and it's darkly lit back street need bull dozing and replacing with something nice.
My advice, the lovely receptionist get a job elsewhere as shes wasted here and could easily hold out in a quality joint, and you the general public spend another tenner on a room in the premier inn down the road, unless old dark, uncomfortable, noisy small roomed hotels are your thing.. Plenty of good reviews for it here I see. But look, they're mostly from Northerers expecting that level of quality.

Thank you for your review on the Waverley Hotel, i am saddended to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. With regards to the noise coming from a nearby room, i would suggest that maybe you should have phoned the night manager to get this problem sorted. We are situated in the middle of a thriving little town, unfortunatley sometimes a bit of noise at night time is to be expected.
Kind regards

Very friendly helpful staff - really good breakfast and could not fault the service. The bedroom was very small and rather dingy not helped by the somewhat inadequate lighting. The bed was rather uncomfortable with only a thin duvet but was ok for the one night . In the showerroom the radiator was not working so quite cold in there also the shower door came away from the bottom and wouldnt close properly. The lovely staff and delicious breakfast made all the difference to our stay and it was very cheap. You get what you pay for and for somewhere to stay whilst visiting the area it did the job. I wouldnt completely rule out staying there again but would ask for a different room - all in all a bed for the night and for that price I wouldnt expect much more.

We stayed here after needing to find a room at two hours notice and for £40 B+B for 2 i was not expecting much.

However, the hotel is clean and as well presented as a building of this age can be. We booked in at 10pm and were checked out at 10am by the same lady who also served us a 1st rate breakfast. In all the time we were there she was the only staff member we saw and she was polite, efficient and very helpfull. The staff leave the building at 11pm and the bar was not open after 8.30pm .

The room was small and dated but clean and warm with duvets and clean towels.

All in all it wuld not be my first choice but i would certainly not ignore what it has to offer especially at that price.

Thank you for your review on the Waverley Hotel. I would just like to make people aware there is always a member of staff on the premises, a live in manager, who is not always visable, but always contactable by the internal phones in your rooms, we are not a 24hr hotel im afraid . I am pleased you enjoyed your breakfast and that you found the staff to be helpful and cheery.
The bar closes at 11pm at night and last orders for food monday - thursday are 8.30pm, but the bar remains open until 11pm.
Kind regards
