“Rural location - warm welcome”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

Stayed at Balterley Green Farm B&B at short notice when travelling to the North of England. So didn’t get to investigate the surrounding area, but it’s located very close to the M6. You’ll need to keep your eyes peeled if arriving in the dark – although the sat nav was spot on. Lots of parking next to the house.

Upon a late night arrival I had a warm and friendly welcome, and was shown to my room in a building next to the main house where breakfast was served. The room and en-suite shower were clean – the shower was lacking a little in pressure – but was nice and hot.

There’s no bar, but the room had tea and coffee making facilities.

There was free unsecured WiFi available, and helpfully I was able to pay using plastic – which isn’t always the case at the smaller hotels/B&B.

Cooked breakfast was good, with choices of cereal and toast too.

I would happily book again.

Located in the country near Crewe. An absolutely relaxing and remote location. Good and spacious rooms and a proper english breakfast served in a lovely lounge. A thank you to Jo and her family for a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: The rooms in the pig sty are more modern, though the one in the main farmhouse is bigger!

Stayed over on my own on a Saturday night, prior to taking part in the Cheshire Cat cycle ride the following day. I arrived much later than planned due to a DIY task taking longer than expected, but was still given a warm and friendly welcome and reassurance that it was not a problem.
My room was clean, tidy and well-appointed with TV, kettle and tea/coffee making facilities, a single and double bed - making it an ideal family room. The ensuite was smart and functional. There was wifi coverage and I checked my email before turning in.

After a good night's sleep, reduced by an hour as the clock's went forward, I went to the dining room in the main house that I had been shown on arrival.
Breakfast was great with orange juice, cereal and, because of the bike ride you understand, I had a full English which was well cooked and finished off with toast, all served by the owner, again with a polite and friendly manner.
A yardstick I always use is "What was the coffee like?" and the coffee was good!!
Not sure I would have found the place without GPS, certainly not in the dark, but I would definitely recommend this place for friendly service, great breakfast, good accommodation and excellent value!

I had 2 nights and had checked in advance that there was wifi access; this was good. I could have done with a chair in the bedroom (and a table in my case but I would not necessarily expect that, it's just that I had a lot of laptop work to do and I like to use a mouse, but I managed). Such friendly people I could not bring myself to say that the mushrooms were cremated on the first morning so I didn't have a cooked breakfast the next day.

This b&b is set in a beautiful area of Cheshire countryside. Some rooms are in the main farmhouse, but I stayed in the converted pig sty: these have been converted to a very high standard. The room is a good size, with a decent ensuite shower room, and it's all very comfortable and well executed.

Breakfast was excellent, and the family that run the farm are very friendly. There's also plenty of parking available.

For £30 a night, you can't go wrong!

  • Liked — Utterly relaxing and comfortable
  • Disliked — A bit hard to find!
  • Tips/Secrets — The White Horse pub, about 2 miles away in Barthomley, does some great beers
