“Not a romantic getaway”
Reviewed April 21, 2006

We booked Crew Hall on the premise that it was an upmarket country house hotel. We were so disappointed after we arrived that we decided not to stay and left 5 minutes after checking in.

It is a conference centre and business complex rather than a romantic country house hotel. It feels and looks like a chain and has no character. We left and booked into the excellent Rowton Hall in Chester.

What a fabulous hotel.

We had booked through an agent and were expecting to have a room in the new annex to the hotel, however on arrival we were given a room in the Hall itself.

The building itself is vast, impressive and more like a stately home than a hotel. However we were shown to the room that was more becoming of a Highland Retreat than Crewe, being tastefully decorated in Tartan and greens. The bathroom was spotless and decorated in white and black tiles, with a seperate shower cubicle even though you could've had a party in the bath it was that large!

We ate in the 'new' restaurant and although the room lacked atmosphere the food was lovely.

Although we only stayed 1 night and Crewe may be better known to most for the Trainspotters this Hotel is worth making the trip for.
