“I would happily come back anytime.....made our stay perfect!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2011

We checked in late due to work approx 10.30pm. Kathryn (the owner) and her husband came and welcomed us immediatey as we parked infront of her gorgeous house. They were very happy and pleased to meet us and asked us how our journey was. They were very welcoming and showed us to our room. We offered to pay right away but they refused and said not to worry, wait untill the morning. They offered us tea and made sure we were comfortable.
The room was lovely. Spotless and had everything that we needed. We had the front double ensuite. The bed was so comfortable and it was so quiet and peaceful. Kathryn had asked us what time we wanted breakfast and she was happy to have it ready for us at 8.30am.
After a very comfortable sleep we went down to breakfast, we were the only ones there!
The table was set beautifully and we could not believe the choice of food that was there. Kathryn had cooked us a beautiful cooked breakfast whilst there was also a range of cereals, fruit, yoghurts and many different spreads for the toast. It must have been the best breakfast and service I have ever experienced at a b&b.
We stayed there for 3 nights and we enjoyed every second of it. We were a 10-15 drive from alton towers which was the reason for saying here. I would definatey recommend coming here. The grounds are beautiful, especially on a hot summers day. I would love to return this year. They couldn't do enough for us. I would go back in a second!

Ley Fields Farm is set back from the road linking Cheadle (the one in Staffordshire) to Leek and although this is a busy route once inside the farm house you can't hear the traffic. It is a working farm but it isn't immediately apprarent as there is a moderate sized front garden with ample parking space and some mature trees.
There are three quite large steps up to the front door which may be a challenge to the less mobile.
Inside there is an elegant staircase leading to the very generously proportioned bedrooms. There is a charming dining room - a virtual family portrait gallery - and a guest lounge both with views of the front. A pot of tea was offered immediately on arrival and from then on the attention given to our contentment was second to none.
Our bottle of bubbly was put on ice for us and we were given advice on where to spend a couple our hours before trying out the recommended pub meal a short car journey away.
As this is a listed building there is a sense of past elegance and I liked the stripped wooden doors with their old-fashioned locks.
Our room - again facing the front - was a double with a single which we occupied as a twin. Two small niggles - there could be another power point close to the single bed so that the occupant can read in bed and the very small ensuite could be enlarged given the size of the room. There was just a shower - reasonable power, good temperature control but just enough room for drying. Shampoo etc was provided. The washbasin is located in the bedroom. I'd suggest that when making any adjustments the stud wall is moved out, a small basin incorporated within the new larger ensuite as the room can take it.
There was a hair dryer, tea making facilities (nice crocks) and a TV (the usual terrestial channels) and a wardrobe which also held spare bed throws and pillows.
Unprompted we were offered extra heating to supplement the radiator.
There were lots of mirrors - the one in the ensuite clearly placed there by a 6ft man!
The decor is perhaps a bit dated but perhaps in keeping with the overall style.
Our beds were comfortable and we felt the farm offered good value for money.
At breakfast we had juice, a choice of cereals, grapefruit segments, yoghurt plus the full cook up of bacon, egg, sausage, mushrooms and a waffle. There was toast, and a choice of tea or coffee. This was all extremely well presented and appealing.
So in summary - I can't fault our hostess who was friendly without being intrusive, it was good value, comfy, quiet and well placed for our visit it Alton Towers. We would stay again.

We have just come back from a weekend lesiure trip to Alton Towers with my husband and young son. We stayed at Ley Farm for one night. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. The room we stayed in was at the front of the house with original features ans stylish interior inkeeping with the house's heritage. After a long day at the waterpark on Saturday it was nice to come back to some peaace and quiet. My three year old loved playing in the garden. We all slept like logs and woke to a superb full english breakfast with all the trimmings. Kathryn and her husband were very welcoming but yet very professional. I would definatley stay here again,it was cracking!!!

This is such a cracking little B&B (well I say little, it's a huge farmhouse) that we felt we had to tell people about it for the first time.
We stopped here after having our hotel room double booked at a nearby hotel and we are very happy that it ended up this way, as the farmhouse was 110% better than the hotel. We were in Cheadle for a surprise 60th birthday party we had organised for my Mum and we were supposed to be stopping at The Manor in Cheadle (very scruffy rooms there I'm afraid with a managers attitude to match).
Anyway, we were struggling to find alternative accommodation until I came across Leyfields on a very quick internet search (the party was 2 days later!) and the photos on the website really do not do the place justice as it is a beautlful country farmhouse and working farm (from what we could tell anyway).
Kathryn and her husband were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Even going as far as offering to give us a lift to the other hotel a mile and half down the road in the evening, for which we gratefully accepted as it seems all taxis are registered to the Mary Celeste in that area!
We were lucky enough to be given the lovley double bedroom facing the front with two sash windows for a good view of the gardens and wildlife, lots of birds to watch nesting and singing, wooden stripped floorboards, tastefully decorated, antique furniture and en suite bathroom (no shower but a nice soak in the bath was just as nice after a long day)
In the morning, we were really sorry to decline what I'm sure would have been a full and hearty farm breakfast judging from the menu (as we wanted to spend it up at he hotel with friends and family to catch up on the party news from the night before) and our hosts were not put out by this at all, they were very understanding.
Price of the room was £52 which was acceptionally good and there were lots of leaflets and local information in the hallway for people stopping longer and wanting to investigate the local area, attractions and beautiful staffordshire countryside. You can also view the B&B on the following travelagents website:

http://www.4hotels.co.uk/uk/hotels/leyfields.html

This lovley B&B gets a definite A+++++ from us!!
p.s. as soon as I can figure out how to download photos from my mobile phone onto the pc, I will add them on.

  • Liked — Friendly hosts and beautiful room and surrounding countryside
