We stayed here for a family trip to Alton Towers, as it was only twenty minutes away. The cottage had everything we needed, and more. There were really thoughtful touches, like childrens' books and kids crockery, which really make a difference to a holiday.
The hosts were lovely, very welcoming, and were very helpful.
However, our favourite part of the stay was the play barn, which had so much inside, the kids were spoilt for choice. They had such a great time playing that it really made the cottage perfect for us.
I would thoroughly recommend this as a family location, as we had a fantastic stay here!
Lovely location and surroundings
Everything you need for a self catering stay
Perfect home from home and Vivien and Derek are lovely hosts.
Vivian and Derek have a lovely Farm property! The Cottages are fully equipped with everything you need. And the place is very clean.
Staying with a toddler was a breeze with all the toys in the play room for children and adults.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Birchenfields. The cottage was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. My daughters enjoyed the play barn and our dog had a great time running around the secure dog paddock.
The cottage is very close to Alton towers, the main reason for booking, but is also easy traveling distance to many other attractions. We enjoyed visits to Cadbury World and Peak Wildlife Park.
The hosts, Derek and Vivian, made us feel very welcome.
We would highly recommend Birchenfields and plan to stay there again.
We wanted a base for a family of 4 and a dog close to the Peak District for 4 nights over half term that wasn't going to cost a huge amount. This property was spot on! Clean, sufficiently roomy, well-equipped, warm, well positioned it represents great value for money. Also had a really good games room for the kids. As well as the Peak District also close to Alton towers, Flipout trampoline in Stafford and a Cineworld and Waterpark in Stoke. Owners are friendly and helpful.
We were looking for a dog friendly cottage close to Keele University so we could visit our student daughter. The corn store was perfect; surrounded by beautiful countryside; very clean; tastefully furnished with a well equipped kitchen. The bunk beds were arranged so that the bottom bunk was at right angles to the top, making it more like a single bed which suited our adult daughter. Photographs do not do the cottage justice and it seems furnishings have been upgraded. Our dog loved the enclosed exercise paddock - a great place for ball games before outings. Derek and Vivienne are thoughtful (without being at all intrusive) and have clearly gone to a lot of effort to accommodate guests. Our "neighbours" had young children who found Halloween gifts left on their door step :-)
We only stayed two nights but discovered there was plenty to do in the area. We enjoyed the Monkey Forest and Christmas shopping at Trentham shopping village (plus a hike in the Peak District prior to check in). Our meal at The Huntsman, about a mile down the road was very good.
We look forward to returning - so much nicer than staying in a thin walled hotel room.
