“Amazing Wedding Venue!! Magical!”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

Well what can i say?

Myself and my new husband!! decideded to get married three months ago we wanted somewhere wonderful, intimate, magical and yet great value.

We started by having a look around and decided that the wizard had something special to it, and was just what we were looking for. I'm a real fan of old bulidings with a rustic feel to them.

Dominic was excellent right from the start in helping with the planning wherever possible, and more importantly the food and drink. Nothing was to much trouble and he was always available to answer any questions or requests. Some of the family members requested a different main and dessert and Dominic was quick to oblige, even at short notice.

We finally decided on a menu of the sharing platters to start, these consisted of a meat platter (homemade and still warm!) which constisted of: scotch eggs, mini meat pies, toast, chutneys, local sliced ham from the bone, and a fish platter of: Tiger prawns, smoked salmon, prawns, homemade fish fingers, and smoked mackrel pate. This was then followed by a main course of local belly pork with crackling, apple compote, fresh vegetables and bubble and squeak.
The meal was finished with a chocolate and salted caramel torte with a fresh rasberry coulis and homemade rasberry ripple ice cream (heavenly!!).

The service throughout the course of the wedding, and the wedding breakfast were both impeccible, there was never an empty glass.

The venue, atmosphere and food were to die for, and a number of our guests are planning a return visit just to try the starter again.

If you are looking for the perfect venue in cheshire for a special occasion, or just a walk around the edge followed by a great meal the Wizard is the place.

Like I said Magical!

“Fantastic pub and wonderful experience”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Came for a meal out with my girlfriend on a Saturday night. Our booking was made for 8pm but we arrived early and asked if our table was ready. The waitress was extremely accommodating and although our table was still in use, she found us another table which was equally as lovely, if not better! We were offered drinks which were brought promptly, recommended a fantastic bottle of red wine and given advice about the choice between two meals. The manager was friendly and we had a really lovely evening. Nothing was too much trouble, what a beautiful restaurant!

“Rude staff, bad drainage smell, poor atmosphere”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

My husband and I went to the Wizard to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with our 3 month old twin daughters.

On arrival we were shown into the front room where we were the ok people in there. It was as if the waitress saw the girls and put us out of the way.

The staff were rude and made us feel uncomfortable having brought the girls to what is described as a 'family friendly pub'. The waitress came back during our meal and rudely said "have you not finished yet?"

The room we were in smelt badly of poor drains and there was a plug in air freshened placed to mask the smell.

The pub was lacking in atmosphere and extremely quiet.

The food was ok but the overall experience spoilt what should have been a special day for us. We couldn't wait to leave.

“Oh My - Some Of The Staff Need A Big Reality Check.....”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

What a let down this pub is.....
It's got masses of potential. It looks really nice. It's got lovely stone floors, and lots of character.
It is badly let down by some of its staff.

Having been shown a table for lunch we waited, and waited, and waited.....
Eventually we stopped someone who had just brought another table some food. She said "Oh, I'll just get Dominic, he's looking after your table".
We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited.
Eventually Dominic passed by and said "Are you ready to order" we said yes.
He then disappeared. He came back a minute or so later with the bill for another table, and then proceeded to clear all the plates etc off that table.

How hard would it have been to take our order first, and then clear the other table?

Again - he disappeared with a stack of dirty plates, and we waited, and waited, and waited...
Another member of staff came by, and she too said "I'll just get Dominic".
Guess what? We waited, and waited, and waited, and Dominic didn't show up.

We finished our drinks and decided to go.

So - I'm sorry - I can't tell you anything about the food in this pub.
The beer was pretty good.

There is a tea room behind the pub building - which looks like it is run by another company.
It looked lovely, but it is cash only, and we didn't have much money on us, so we headed back in to Wilmslow.

I suspect we wont be in a hurry to go back to the Wizzard, and alas I doubt that they care.

Reading the other reviews it looks like I am not alone, and it also looks like the service is somewhat hit & miss.
If you have a "hit" you'll probably like it, but don't hold your breath.....

TeamWizard, Manager at The Wizard, responded to this review, May 13, 2013
We heartily value all feedback whether positive or negative thus enabling us to improve the overall customer experience here at The Wizard. Sunday lunch on 12th May was an extremely busy service for us and I apologise that you had to wait a while and eventually decided you couldn't wait any longer and left the premises.

“A nice bite to eat...”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Nice location and a good dog friendly pub. We got a table no problem. Food was good and reasonably priced considering the presentation. Great selection on the menu and fab posh chips :-)
Staff extremely friendly and a great overall service.
