We wanted a gastro pub with a cosy feel, and great food in a lovely location and that is exactly what we found at The Wizard. The waitress greeted us with a warm welcome and a smile, and such was the service for the rest of the evening. Polite, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. The food was outstanding, and trust me I know good food. Beautiful starters (we had the special of salmon fishcakes with a home-made tarter sauce; home-made scotch egg and a assortment of chipolata sausages with a mustard mayo) all tasty, not over-facing and cooked beautifully. The mains of surf and turf - gorgeous and perfectly cooked rump steak (rear) with garlic king prawns, and a sirloin which was on the special board all super tasting, deliciously tender meat, and fabulous chips! We shared a creme brûlée - which was again, lovely - particularly the shortbread that accompanied it.
Definitely worth a visit, had a nice chat with the manager (we think) at the end of the evening. Well worth the money, and we're already looking forward to the next visit. It was so refreshing to visit a pub that serves excellent local produce at a more than reasonable price!
Be spellbound by the wizard - we were!
