We wanted a gastro pub with a cosy feel, and great food in a lovely location and that is exactly what we found at The Wizard. The waitress greeted us with a warm welcome and a smile, and such was the service for the rest of the evening. Polite, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. The food was outstanding, and trust me I know good food. Beautiful starters (we had the special of salmon fishcakes with a home-made tarter sauce; home-made scotch egg and a assortment of chipolata sausages with a mustard mayo) all tasty, not over-facing and cooked beautifully. The mains of surf and turf - gorgeous and perfectly cooked rump steak (rear) with garlic king prawns, and a sirloin which was on the special board all super tasting, deliciously tender meat, and fabulous chips! We shared a creme brûlée - which was again, lovely - particularly the shortbread that accompanied it.

Definitely worth a visit, had a nice chat with the manager (we think) at the end of the evening. Well worth the money, and we're already looking forward to the next visit. It was so refreshing to visit a pub that serves excellent local produce at a more than reasonable price!

Be spellbound by the wizard - we were!

We visited on a sunday - we had not booked but luckily they managed to squeeze us in. The place has a lovely feel. Wonderfully relaxed and comfortable with a real mix creating a lovely atmosphere- families, dog walkers, friends, couples..sunday lunch was very good - and the menu should have something for everyone. The staff were brilliant; the prices were good and we can't wait to visit again

I think we ate a little late in the evening as three of the four specials were gone and it looked like most of the food had been eaten during the day. I had to send my steak back to be cooked again as it was bloody all the way through.
The pub had a nice atmosphere and the rest of the party seemed happy with their meals but I certainly wouldn't be hurrying back.

Loved the food, delish!!! Enjoyed the atmosphere. Thought the sachets of sauce, napkins and cutlery in a box on the table didn't match the lovely Gastro pub food. But all in all, worth a visit.

Old rambling pub on outskirts of town. Ate with friends and family, had a really good steak with triple cooked chips, the fish and chips were off the menu this evening. Service was very friendly and effecient. nice beer garden outside.
