“Market Menu, best value for money menu by miles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2010

The Alderley Edge Hotel restaurant wasn't an obvious choice for us but we were tempted to give it a whirl when we saw their market menu advertised locally. The menu is well designed and had a good choice. The food was very well presented and each course delicious worthy of real recognition. The market menu is available all year, but they had a special price during July and August. However the usual price is only £5 extra and still represents great value. We have been a few times since our first visit with family and friends and they have been back again too. The staff are professional and make it feel like a special occasion. It's great to have such good food, great service and excellent value on your doorstep. We will keep going back.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with well-tended gardens and outside seating. All reception rooms are very attractive and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with very good service in the large conservatory. The room was fairly small but with a lovely outlook over the gardens. Teapot, biscuits and good toiletries were provided. The price of the room (not booked direct with hotel) was very reasonable and excellent value for money. Staff were friendly and helpful. Alderley Edge is a good base for many attractions. We spent several hours at Quarry Bank Mill. Try to include a tour of the Apprentice House when visiting. Jodrell Bank is nearby. We also visited the beautiful Biddulph Grange Gardens.

Stayed for the weekend for a family wedding. Bar service was good, with varied bar menu and some reception staff were very helpful but we were in the smallest hotel room imagineable. As we stayed for 2 nights and many of the other guests just stayed for one we asked for a larger double room if possible when booking. Unfortunately we were told this was not possible as all the larger and premium rooms were booked for families (even though we booked in December for March). This would have been fair enough except that we saw several other rooms stayed in by other family members and they were all larger - even the ones occupied by singles for one night. It was very disappointing particularly as our teenagers had a much higher standard twin room - more space, Sky TV, towelling robes etc than our double. In addition both our bedroom and bathroom were grubby - food stains on the wallpaper, grease marks on the bedspread, dirty bathroom floor - but not all the rooms were like this. We asked to move but were told this was the only room available and as we were attending a wedding in the hotel we had no choice but to stay. Its such a shame as the hotel has a great location and the wedding was managed superbly but our accommodation was very poor.

We stayed at this hotel for a family wedding, though the food was very nice, The bedrooms were an utter disgrace! I thought the rooms would be a justice and reflect the welcome and entrance to this grand looking hotel.
How wrong we were! Our room resembled a single room, I have never seen a bed so small in a hotel, We had the most uncomfortable 2 nights in our lives.
This hotel is like a third world country upstairs, all the guests were complaining on their horrible bedrooms.
If your invited to a function that is to be held at this hotel I suggest strongly you book a room at the Premier Inn thats a five minute walk away.
The breakfast was ok but we had to wait for fresh bacon and eggs,
I advise you to give this a wide berth!!!!

My husband and I had read excellent reviews of the restaurant in various local magazines and so decided to try it when celebrating our Wedding Anniversary with another couple. As I had read in Cheshire Life that there were excellent views over the Cheshire Plain, I requested a good table when making the booking. When we were shown to our table we were placed in what appeared to be a corridor leading to the kitchen and our lovely view was of the side of the hotel with cars and hedges. I was a little disappointed but when I actually looked at the "good" tables, the view was of the car park and the hedges at the end of the car park obstructed any view of the Cheshire Plain!

We were given an "Amuse Bouche" as an appetiser which was delicious and we were eagerly awaiting the rest of our meal. However, when the starters followed, they weren't much bigger than the appetisers! When the actual main courses arrived we couldn't contain our laughter any longer! The Shepherds Pie was more like Shepherds Eye! as it was no bigger than a 50p piece! We all had starters, mains and deserts but were still hungry, especially the men who returned home to make toast!

The food is excellent but there is just not enough of it and the bill for four of us was £695!!!! We had 3 bottles of wine in total and the men had 2 brandies. I enjoyed the evening because we had never laughed so much but the next day we felt completely ripped off. We have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the World (eg Cipriani & Danieli in Venice) and they were not as expensive as this. I pity anyone who has saved like mad to go to the restaurant only to leave feeling fleeced!

We stayed on night at the hotel on our way home from the lakes. The hotel is comfortable and quiet with plenty of parking. The joy however was the dining. We had the tasting menu for diner with wine, which was simply stupendous. Six courses of mouth watering food with tasters as well between courses. The chef could have swept the board on 'Masterchef', and deserves some Michelin stars. We regularly eat at Michelin starred restaurants and his was up there with th bt of them. Go on before the prices go up.

I recently had a very enjoyable break at the Alderley Edge Hotel. I often travel to Cheshire and have stayed at many hotels in the area but this hotel is by far the best – there’s none that even come close when it comes to fantastic food, helpful and friendly staff and the understated elegance of the place.
We stayed in one of their suites which was very spacious and had very modern bathroom with an excellent power shower. The hotel staff are very helpful; we had a wedding to attend and needed our room cleaning early so we could ready ourselves for the event. We asked the receptionist who duly obliged – the room was cleaned rapidly with no fuss.
The restaurant and menu is of the highest quality. Don’t miss the cooked English breakfast – which was sublime. If you don’t wish to eat in the restaurant the bar which has been recently renovated and now has a very modern décor, also has menu that is not as extensive as the restaurant but still has a good selection of the yummiest food. The bar staff are also very helpful and friendly – doing their best to make you feel that you’re the only guest that matters, even though it was busy on the night.
