Amazing double cheese souffle but the wine waitress was a litte too attentive!
We had a great meal here as we were staying at Wizards Thatch around the corner.

Thank A F

We went here unplanned last night and left feeling very disappointed. I have eaten in other Blackhouse restaurants before and always enjoyed them but this was not up to their usual standards.

We had starters - I had calamari which was good (don't forget to ask for it without tentacles if that's not your thing as they come with them as standard) and my partner had the mushroom tart - which was not so much a tart but more a bit of hard pastry with a few mushrooms and cheese as a topping.

We were then seduced by the Sunday roast menu, which had a choice of pork, chicken or sirloin of beef. We went for the beef which supposedly came with "loads" of roast potatoes, "lashings" of gravy and "plenty" of veg, as well as Yorkshire puds. We could choose between meduim or well done and we went for medium. It came well done so we sent it back. The second attempt was much better. However the "loads" of roast potatoes was more a 'handful', the gravy was adequate but hardly "lashings" and the Yorkshire puddings were hard, salty and burnt.

They did try to make up for the poor roast by taking 20% off the bill, which was appreciated but I think for £36 for the roast for 2 it was vastly over priced. We left feeling we'd been ripped off to be honest.

I find this restaurant so disappointing. The ambience and staff are great, seating, lighting and decor are terriffic but the foood is disapppointing. We went again recently and spent a lot of money but have several poor courses between us.
will try aginn soon but it needs to improve if that isn't to be the last time!

We booked the Grill as an alternative to Gusto (across the road).
We booked an early Sunday evening meal and had a lovely experience.
The menu is quite comprehensive - there are lots of choices, including a specials selection.
The staff were friendly and the food was served quite quickly.
There are a couple of bad reviews on here which initially put me off and made me quite nervous as this was for an anniversary meal. However, I was suitable impressed with The Grill on the Edge.
Worth a visit!!!
