“A pub with rooms not a hotel.............”

and an expensive one, £92 for bed and continental breakfast.
The staff and their friends most have been writing the recent reviews on here as the service was mediocre at best.
The three course set meal with a pint of shandy was alright but at over £24 I was expecting better.
The room was near to the kitchen extract fan which rumbled away most of the time, the only respite was between 23:30 and 06:00.
There was no chair for the desk so tough luck if you want to work or put on yer lippy.
Fair play to whoever does the cleaning though as the bedroom and ensuite were clean.
The room overlooked the back door of the kitchen where the staff have their fag breaks. I can also tell you they clock out at midnight and return again at 5am as that was when I was woken up.
This place obviously trades on its address but be warned it might be in the Alderley Edge post code but its not in or on the outskirts of the village.
I won't be back.

Room Tip: A room without a view of the back passage.

This was our third visit since the outdoor re-furb, lovely outdoor seating area is now a pleasure to relax in....

The staff here are all very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them.

On our second visit we were walking to have a late Dinner, we were cutting it close to last orders and starving, so that we could still eat before the kitchens closed for food, Gareth very kindly took our order over the phone and was ready for us when we arrived.

On our third visit on a very sunny day, we sat outside, I noticed my skin was turning a little pink so asked Adrian a silly question, " do you by any chance have any sun tan lotion I could borrow." Adrian made my question sound not so silly when he asked all members of staff- thankfully the lovely Kim had some and happily lent me some!

The food is fantastic here, especially the pizzas!

Definitely worth a visit, nice atmosphere and very helpfully staff and great food. ( haven't stayed at the hotel)

Great staff, really welcoming and helpful. Lovely decor, good colour scheme and flooring and stylish rooms. Fab shower in one of our rooms and the rustic stone tiling in both the shower rooms was a great touch. Good linen and all the little touches that make you feel you're on holiday. The menu was exciting with some imaginative dishes, I particularly enjoyed the mezze. There was a great vibe, busy but not stressed in atmosphere. The breakfasts were hugely enjoyed by all the family, I loved the porridge choices and they were really tasty too. Highly recommend to all, we were there with our sons aged 14 and 18 and they liked it too.

Room Tip: The room at the front was larger with a far superior shower to our room at the back.

This is simply one of the best pub restaurants I have ever been.

The service is excellent. Staff very friendly and always willing to help.

Relaxing atmosphere makes you to want to go back. In fact have been traveling in the area on business and have been visiting the pub frequently.

Very good variety of food and reasonably priced. Huge selection of wine list.

Greeted warmly by the staff who seem like a family & a lovely young man called Andrew or Aidan?!
Every single need was tended to and nothing ceased to delight us. First time in this quaint hotel and certainly won't be the last!
Thankyou to Andrew? And the team for making our trip everso special.

We were visiting Manchester and just needed somewhere other than inner city or airport accommodation. The Merlin at Alderley Edge fit the bill beautifully . The room was quiet and well appointed( the only thing missing was a long mirror for the final check before going out.) For our evening meal and breakfast the service was friendly and efficient. The meal itself was tasty and beautifully presented. We would most certainly stay again.

I've eaten here a number of times over the years, the food is pretty decent and there is an extensive menu. Maybe too extensive, there is an abundance of choice.

If you eat in the main restaurant it can be draughty, not the warmest of venues.

We were attended to by three waiters, the younger ones were very attentive and pleasant but the spiky haired one in his 30s- head waiter?- barely had a moment for us. Downright offhand, hurried (they weren't busy) and pretty unpleasant.

Disappointed to see they've stopped serving bread with oil and balsamic upon arrival. This was a nice touch but I guess they want to make more on the menu.

Ate from the set lunch menu this time, simple, nice but very small portions. If you want to feel like you've eaten you'll need all three courses!

The Merlin has decent bar and usually an ale or two on.
