“Attractive house in pleasant riverside setting.”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

The house is set in a row of georgian properties beside the river. Downstairs you can view 4 rooms - helpful staff on hand to provide information. Up the stairs 3 more rooms are available for viewing and in the basement the kitchen and Butler's Pantry. The house has the feel of a middle class georgian family home with some interesting original features. Outside the rear garden is very attractive and there is a great cafe sellling the usual National Trust food/drinks. If the weather is fine there is a lovely garden to sit and savour your tea and scones!
Worth a visit if you are in the area. I don't think anyone with walking problems would manage to get upstairs or downstairs as there didn't appear to be a lift.

“Interesting Town House with a beautiful garden”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

You get the feel of a lived in house and with Alexandrina Peckover dying in the 1940's it still feels recent to those of a certain age :-) The photo collections in the library are fascinating and the gardens are particularly beautiful. The barn tea rooms are very tastefully presented. My only quibble is that like a lot of NT properties at present they don't have fridge magnets which we particularly enjoy collecting!

“National Trust day out”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We enjoyed the gardens more than the house. Seeing people play crocquet and enjoying the sun and the flowers.

“Fantastic Gardens”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

We visited in April and the gardens were just coming into bloom so we decided to visit again in July. Unfortunately as we arrived the heavens opened and we had to spend extra time in the house waiting for it to stop. The volunteers were very helpful and we got a recommendation for somewhere to eat in the evening. When were able to get into the gardens we were not disappointed, the roses were magnificent in spite of the rain.

“Wedding”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

This was a superb venue for our wedding and are so pleased that we opted for this rather than a church. The setting was so intimate and the team their were so organised and attentive that we didn't have to worry about a thing. We used the piano in situ and were given access to this for practice in advance of the wedding. All of our guest commented on how special they found the venue and once the ceremony was over we had full access to the beautiful gardens that provided the perfect back drop for our photos.
