This was our 2nd visit to the Akbar, first being 2 years ago. Restaurant is typical of a curry house from the 80/90's, carpets, table cloths, decor etc. It really could do with some money spent on it but in a way I quite like the old fashioned curry houses. Service was as acceptable and food was of good quality. Don't expect any flare or any fancy bits, the Akbar is a traditional curry house - expect more and you're be disappointed. Like I say, it's nice that St Neots still has a traditional curry house, it might not be everyone's cup of tea but it provides a good alternative to the Nawab and Raj in town.

We stumbled across this whist staying at the Premier Inn just up the road, we drove past planning to go into St Neots and turned round and went back to the hotel to park. It was in easy reach of teh EAst Socon Premier Inn. It is located in a very pretty half timbered building, full of charatcer.

The staff were very friendly and made sure we were well served, with the personl touch which is lacking in many places.

We had chicken shaslick and mixed tandoori with naan. It was all good and there was plenty of meat. If we lived locally this would be a reguar place for us to eat but unfortuantely we live too far away.

We have dined at the Akbar for many years, in fact it was one of our favourite eating places when we lived in the St Neots area. We visited the Akbar with friends on a recent return visit to the area.
We all had onion baji to start - we all agreed these were the very best onion bajis that we had ever had. OTOH, the main courses were disappointing, and certainly not up to the standard we had experienced on our many previous visits. I have given the restaurant four stars based on our earlier visits, but our recent visit only warrants three stars.

This restaurant is in an old building and has an excellent feel about it if you eat in. I use them a couple of times a month for takeaway and it is always great food and very reasonable. Although not right in the town centre its worth the drive.

We recently had a meal at the Akbar - we'd passed it on a walk from the hotel and thought it looked quite nice - food was pretty good overall - bombay mix on the table while you chose your food was a nice touch - we had poppadoms to start with but they could do with getting a fourth chutney option - a bit of a cop out having 2 bowls filled with the same thing! - onion bhaji starters were pretty standard but came with plenty of salad - the curries we chose were really good - lots of good quality chicken pieces and there was plenty of rice - overall we were happy. We were asked if we wanted coffee which we did but they had no decaf so we went without - the waiter looked astonished that we wanted to go without the caffeine to be honest. We did feel a little rushed at times - once we'd said no to the coffee the bill pretty much arrived on the table straight away - certainly we had not asked for it and had we wanted another drink we didn't appear to have that choice.
One thing I would add is that the tables are a little close together - so if you are a couple out for a romantic meal expect to be pretty close to your neighbours!!
