“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013 via mobile

We had a two night break via travel zoo at the five arrows and we were not disappointed. Lovely room. Fantastic evening meal and breakfasts. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Great value for money. Waddlesdon manor next door is well worth a trip, as was the long dog pub nearby. Would definitely return.

We spent an excellent night at this fantastic hotel on 14th April. We took the Travelzoo offer and on booking with the hotel paid a small fee to upgrade to a deluxe room. On arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite which was a real treat, located in a converted stable at the rear of the hotel. The room was very comfortable, no issues with the road. The food was excellent, one of the best meals out that I have had for a long time and we comfortably managed to fit two courses within our £50 offer. I would happily recommend the restaurant, relaxing, welcoming, unpretentious, but really delicious attractive food which should cost much more. Food arrived very quickly (perhaps too quickly!)

We were also given free garden tickets into Waddesdon and had an enjoyable few hours walking around the grounds, shops etc. My wife is heavily pregnant so it was a bit of a mistake to walk from the hotel - it is perhaps 15-20 minutes including a very steep hill, so if you have mobility issues best to take the car round!

The only down side was a bit of a misunderstanding over breakfast. We thought that breakfast was available until 10:00 and on arriving at 9:30 am we were told that we could still have cooked breakfast, but cereals, juice etc had been put away - although I still enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast. We then felt very rushed eating as the staff cleaned up around us!

Overall an excellent trip and I would love to stay here again. We would also bring our 3 year old daughter next time as she would love the enclosed garden. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. Thankyou!

Room Tip: The rooms in the garden and all on ground floor level and probably quieter.

Dear Moonie99

It is very nice to have a positive review posted based on one of our special offer breaks. We do not do this very often with external partners, so it is best to keep an eye on the Special Offers page of the website where we have some extraordinary deals running most of the year.

Your comment 'relaxing, welcoming, unpretentious, but really delicious attractive food' is beautifully put and very much appreciated.

I apologise for the full breakfast buffet not being out, and for any feeling of being hurried when you came down as this is not the usual situation. I have spoken to the overzealous staff from that morning and though it is important to have tables cleared around you so that you are not sitting amongst other people's dirty crockery, you should absolutely never feel rushed.

We would love to welcome you with your daughter on another occasion-it is perfect to be able to watch children play while you enjoy a drink in the garden and we hope you will come soon when the new baby comes. Good luck with your new arrival!

Dear M J Gente

What a lovely thing to hear! We do aim to make our guests feel really special when they stay so it's great to hear that we succeed. I must agree that our terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine in the sun and a well enough kept secret to ensure it feels an exclusive place to be!

We hope to see you soon.

We recently spent a 2 night break at this lovely hotel, our room was at the front, but did have a balcony(although weather precluded our use ) if we have 1 criticism there were No Bath Robes supplied in room, so if we had the chance to use balcony then they would have been helpful!.
the staff were always helpful & friendly, The restaurant for our evening meals, was simply a delight. on our 1st night,we were asked if we would like to order "off menu" some free range belly pork. well this was outstanding,(I very nearly ordered it 2nd night) but selected the ribeye steak instead & this was also of a very high standard, my wife ordering the guinea fowl as well. The wine choice has to be recommended, especially a wide selection of wine in carafe(500ml) this helps when you like to have a pre-dinner drink.
again only a small note to make ,Why no Aylesbury Duck on menu?,when it is a famous local meat, they had it on the lunch menu at Waddesdon Manor restaurant, ,now breakfast, again well cooked & service etc were excellent, my poached eggs were overcooked on first morning, but 2nd morning I asked for "runny poached egg" & this was only just managed!
overall a wonderful relaxed visit,

Room Tip: I read a lot of people note the Main road noise, well after about 8pm this disappears untill about 6...

Thank you for your review and your feedback is very much valued. We are actually looking at putting Aylesbury duck on the menu, and will hopefully be able to offer it to you on a return visit!

Many thanks

Friends, my husband and I took a Travelzoo offer to this lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room and en suite were very well appointed, I had previously requested a walk I Shower for my husband, as he has 3 tin joints, so whilst he had what he needed I had a fabulously long, deep, cast iron, bath . Just wonderful as the weather outside was dreadful.
The food was also to a very high standard beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. "Best steak I have had in a long time" my friends husband stated.

Spent two nights here. On arrival we were very pleased to have been upgraded to the Waddesdon Suite; this is a converted coach house, consisting of a separate sitting room and bedroom. The location is between the main building and the car park, so well back from the (busy) main road. Really quiet, apart from a small footpath that runs on one side of the building. Breakfast was served in the main building, and was good and plentiful. My only (slight) criticism would be that the carpet, being very light, looked like it needed a clean; the bed is only a double, so a little bit cramped. Other than that, perfect.

Room Tip: Book for two or more nights - seemed to work for us!

Dear Headabove

We are very pleased that you appreciated the upgrade to the Waddesdon Suite and enjoyed the selection for breakfast. With regard to the carpet, it was due shortly after your stay for its regular deep clean at which point we have it shampooed, so my apologies that you felt it looked ready already.

Should you wish for a larger bed whe you next come, do please mention it on booking and we can make recomendations for the perfect room for you.

We hope to see you soon. Many thanks.

My husband and I have just spent an overnight stay at this hotel on a Travelzoo deal. The staff were all very welcoming. Our room was comfortable with an ironing board and hairdryer in the large wardrobe and the en suite had a walk in shower which was very good as we both have difficulties getting in and out of a bath. Lovel big fluffy towels and White Company soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion dispensers.

There is no lift at this hotel but fortunately we were on the first floor and our case was brought up for us.

We had a £50 allowance towards dinner and were able to have a two course meal for this. The food was excellently presented and cooked.

Breakfast was very good - cooked breakfast brought to your table so hot and freshly cooked.

Only one very very small criticism. In the room there was a notepad and pencil (at most hotels one usually is provided with a pen). However I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a very comfortable and pleasant place.

Dear bigtrippertoo

Thank you for writing here about the offer through which you stayed and the friendly welcome you received from our staff, as well as the comfortable well equipped room and excellent food. I have passed on your comments to the team, who join me in appreciating your words.

We occasionally make limited period promotions though quality partners, but also have both ongoing or special offers on our website which I would recommend looking at to see if we can tempt you back another time soon!

We hope so.

Alex.
