Visited on a very rare sunny, dry day in November 2012. The Manor is magically decorated for Christmas and had a really special festive feel. Going round the house didn't take that long so if visiting in winter do not plan to spend a full day here and maybe combine with something else to fill your day.

My husband and I are National Trust members and visited recently to view the Christmas decorations in the house. We will probably return at a later date to view the house and plant centre properly as we didn't get to see everything before it closed.

We arrived late in the day and decided to head straight for the Stables restaurant for lunch. Although we arrived at 14:00, the restaurant was still rammed and we had to wait 10-15 minutes for a seat. We then had another wait for a waiter to take our order but once we had ordered the food didn't take too long to arrive. It was nice but not worth the money it cost! They will also add a 10% service charge on so make sure you ask for this to be removed if you don't wish to pay it. Also watch your change as we weren't given ours and had to ask for it.

There is plenty of car parking at several different stages around the grounds and we found this adequate. Lots of modern 'art' exhibits dotted around the routes from the car parks to the main sections.

There are several shops around the complex but check the prices as we bought a Christmas decoration in the Stables shop and saw the same decoration for 25p more in the Manor shop.

The Narnia exhibit in the Stables is worth a visit - could be longer but very well laid out.

The Christmas decorations in the Manor house and outside it are worth a look - lots of brightly decorated trees.

We didn't get to visit the Plant Centre so will do this next time. There is a Land Rover pulling a train carriage which transports you between the Manor, Stables and Plant Centre. This is very useful as it can be a long walk otherwise! We found our driver very amenable and helpful to some of the older members travelling on the train.

A worthwhile visit and lots to see and do including various activities for children over the Christmas season. Check what's on as I think there's a Christmas food fair coming up soon as well.

I live quite close to Waddesdon, and it is a 'no-brainer' visit if we have guests staying. Elegant grounds, adorned with fountains and statues, and then the terrific vista towards the house and away from the house. The interior is stunning, with interesting collections and paintings, and, having been many times, I still manage to see something new to me each time. The volunteer staff in each room are very knowledgeable and willing to chat. A slight downside to some people is that the car parking can get very busy, and you end up having to walk some distance, but then this can be through the lovely landscape gardens, so it becomes part of the visit. Would agree that it can be too busy at peak times, but then that just illustrates what a good visit this is for culture, architecture, garden and history lovers. Make sure to plan ahead and reserve house tickets a good day or two ahead to be sure of getting in when you want.

I visited Waddesdon Manor for a lunch we had booked on 21st Nov. We were made to park our car near coaches by a vertical grass muddy verge a long way from the house. On getting out of the car on to the slope we found it very slippery and dangerous as it was raining heavily, needless to say we got soaked even with umbrella's. We are all mature ladies and expected better.
The food was good but service slow, not a problem to us as we can fill in time with a ching wag but if you are in a hurry you may wish to make other arrangements.

Dear Lyn J,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your visit to Waddesdon Manor in November and I am sorry to read about your experiences on the day. We will always try and park visitors' cars on the driveway rather than the grass verges, but on some occasions when we are busy we do use the verges as well. I am sorry that you were put in a difficult position with having to navigate the slippery grass in the rain and I will ensure that our car parking team are completely aware of this for our new season which commences in March. I am also sorry to read that you found the service in one of our restaurants to be slow, but I am pleased that you did enjoy the food when it came.

Thank you for taking the trouble to post your review, and I do hope that we can welcome you back to Waddesdon Manor again in the future, when I hope you will have a better experience with us.

Yours sincerely,

Simon Wales
