I visited Cliveden last year, and was extremely disappointed by the poor food, poor service and high cost! A friend told me that there had been a change of management last Summer and I should revisit. Taking a gamble, I returned on Saturday. Wow! What a difference a year makes! The food was excellent and so were the staff. A complete transformation. Apparently a new GM started last Summer and has gone through the restaurant and kitchen with a "dose of salts"! Seems that the dead-wood have moved on, and a new team with such a refreshing outlook on quality service and excellent catering have been brought in.
So if anyone like me, was put off last Spring, do give Cliveden another visit. You won't be disappointed.
The hotel building and furnishings, as well as the grounds at Cliveden all belong to the National Trust. Dare I say, the NT needs to spend money on the interior furnishings in the lounges and restaurant. As historic as they are, and lovely to see, they are showing signs of tiredness and are now in need of refurbishment. Come on NT, match the good work being done by the hotel!More
