“Totally dire!!”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

OMG where do I start? Stayed only one night here and that was one too many!
After being told the rooms had been recently refurbished, I was hoping they would be lighter than the pub itself. Sadly not. The room I was in certainly did not recently have a refurb as the wall had damp stains, the carpet was badly stained and the bathroom was mouldy around the taps.
Possibly the refurbished bit meant the curtains and clean bedsheets!
The walls and doors were painted a dark grey - and not well painted at that, which did nothing for the place.
The bath didnt work so could only have a shower and there was severe lack of staff to deal with problems.
In the morning at breakfast I was devasted at only having instant coffee from sachets and a pump thermos to do it yourself!
Amazingly though they had Costa cups but no Costa coffee!! Not only that but the waitress admitted she was actually the cleaner and didnt really know what she was doing when she took our food order!!
I will not return - thats for sure!!!!

We stayed one night here this week on our way to London for a wedding. From the start we felt that it wasn't going to be our kind of place, The car park was almost like a piece of waste ground behind the hotel.. The letters of the sign were hanging off or missing and the entrance was very uninviting. Once inside, it was even more so. Overall very gloomy and dark and smelling of stale beer. Reception when the couple behind the desk finished chatting, was reasonably efficient - thanks to Chris. The young lady couldn't have cared less. We found our room which was equally gloomy although nicely furnished and the saving grace, the bed and the bathroom were spotless. The curtains were hanging off their rail and an electrical socket behind the bedside table was hanging off the wall dangling on its wires. The bulb was broken in the wall light which made one corner of the room very dark and I asked at reception if it could be replaced. The young woman of our previous encounter assured me that it would be dealt with - it wasn't by the time we left next morning. Breakfast next morning was a depressing experience. The room was an overall mud colour and the tables still bore the traces of the previous users. The serving area was awash with spilled coffee from the dispensers which flowed around the dinner plate loaded with empty sugar sachets, teabags and other assorted debris. The 'continental' breakfast was adequate if unexciting. I don't think we'll rush back.

Stayed here for one night. The weather was evil but our room was lovely and warm. The bedroom was a good size and very comfortable. Check in staff very nice and very helpful. Breakfast was very good but hot water for coffee was not hot and difficult to get out of the pump flask. Over all a pleasant stay.
Good location in the middle of the Buckingham which is surrounded by lovely countryside.

Room Tip: 2nd floor has a narrow staircase up to it. Older or very unfit people should request first floor.

we went into this beautiful building which is the local pub disco on a Saturday night - we had been for a wonderful meal at Prezzo in town and wanted to finish off the evening with a drink. Filth is all I can say, it was disgusting. There was green slime mould dripping down the front wall outside from the gutter to the left of the street door, the carpets were totally worn out, and we had no choice but to sit on a sofa that was almost walking! There were pipes looking like garden hoses taped across the floor connecting the radiatiors?? there were what would once have been beautiful ornate chandaliers but the bulbs had blown and not been replaced or cleaned, the table we sat at had never been wiped over, and having had the guts to lift the dirty cusion on the sofa I was horrified at the mess and left. I took a couple of photos if needed. There was a pane of glass smashed in the bar outside window to the street that had been sellotaped up and then cling film added. For such a lovely village and lovely building I can not understand how this place has passed any fire and satefy and health certificates to allow guest to stay. Do not pay to stay here, the place is a pub with a disco and that is where they put their efforts certainly not in the hotel side. Our partners had been drinking in the evening (not in there) and even in their non sober state they were disgusted. Whilst I never stayed the night (thank god) I have put my ticks on the ratings from what I saw.

Room Tip: avoid at all costs.

This is a large pub with rooms above. It is in an excellent position right in the centre of Buckingham. Our room was large and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good with a variety of cereals, juices, cooked options available. The whole place could do with a makeover but for the price it is good value for a night away.

The manager was really helpful and nice. The room was dirty, there was no toilet roll, milk for a coffee or a spoon; however they were quick once I asked.
The room was really cold and it took a long time to work out the heater, reception told me it takes about 20 mins to warm up! Suggest some instructions or pre warming.
The kettle was just dirty to look at, I couldn't sit on the chair because of crumbs and the carpet hasn't been hoovered.
Location was brilliant.
The hotel was nice it just needs a deep clean. If it wasn't for the manager being so nice I wouldn't have accepted it.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, clean warm room with wi-fi, tv and great decor. Plenty of hot water, towels were so white and soft. Comfy beds and delicious breakfast. EXCELLANT value. Loved the view from our window....out the front of the hotel....can see all going on. We have the choice to stay with relations but we love staying at the hotel. Air conditioning is the best, just ask how to use it if you don't know.

Room Tip: room 18, overlooks the front of the hotel.....quiet and so relaxing.
