Stayed over on 24 December 2011. Checked in round 10pm and the bar was really busy. Room was very clean and comfortable except for no remote control for the TV.

Overall a great hotel with very comfortable rooms. Lots of stairs and passages to get around but thats expected of an old building.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the top floor or away from the bar area. Bare area can get noisy at night.

Hotel and resturaunt under new managment, where they found these idiots from who knows? landlord only seems worried about filling himself with beer and playng darts, what I'm gathering is the landlady (the large gobby lady occasioally behind the bar) is more concerned with emptying the place of all paying customers rather than getting new custom in, the whole hotel looks a little dirty and very tired, toilets were awful 3 urinals blocked full to the brim with urine, the bar has paint falling off of it and service was terrible, the whole place needs a refurb in my opinion, don't expect a decent pint either, on our visit the pub had no gas therefor could not serve any carbonated drinks alcoholic or non alcoholic, although this place has a good location we will not be visiting again !!

We had booked this hotel because of the location. As we would only stay one night we survived, but were we to stay longer we'd have left.

Upon arrival, which was on a Friday at a busy hour for hotels, nobody was at the reception, so we headed for the bar.
The room was old, smelled badly and desperately needed a refurbishment. If ours was refurbished, the decorator should be fired.

The bedside lamp on one side out of the bed didn't work, likely a bulb needed te be replaced.
I reported it at the bar (still nobody at the reception desk) and the girl told me it would be replaced. It never got replaced.

The bed was clean, but under the bed and in corners of the room crumbs and dust could be found. The stairs leading to the rooms were full of dust and crumbs as well.

We left and didn't return till midnight. By that time the car park was full and we had to find a place in one of the streets nearby.

We did sleep well, it was quiet during the night.

Next morning breakfast was a disaster. Nobody came to take our order and no fresh coffee could be found. We went to the bar again (this seems to be the only place that is occupied) and the girl said she'd bring coffee. Coffee turned out to be instant coffee, which I refused to drink.
The girl never returned, so we had to eat what was available, nothing special, but no cooked breakfast. Moreover a huge televison was screaming in the breakfast room, while the one in the bar was screaming the same program and the only other people in the breakfast room were screaming just as loud. We understand rugby is big, but please go to the bar!

We left as soon as possible, never to return again.

I am going to start by letting you know that this review is going to be quite long. If you have any intention of booking this hotel, I urge you to read the whole review before parting with your funds. Buckle up intrepid traveller, read on!

The hotel is situated in the pleasant town of Buckingham. It is situated on the main street and upon arrival you will no doubt wish to park your vehicle, disembark and head indoors. The carpark is situated to the rear of the building. Judging from other reviewers experiences we were very lucky in finding a space, albeit next to a large, overflowing, skip.

From the carpark the rear of the hotel can be gazed upon and we delighted in the spectacle of youngsters falling out of the back into the beer garden clutching their cigarettes and bottled beverages as the dulcet tones of the music banged into the night sky.

Luckily we had read reviews a couple of days before we travelled and were therefore expecting to park in this scenic location.

The sign at reception read "If reception is unmanned please make your way to the bar ....." We were greeted by a local who advised us he would find us a receptionist! My wife and I were very glad of this assistance as I certainly did not feel up to wading through the youngsters to get to the bar to find one myself.

The local chap returned and advised he had been successful and a receptionist arrived in a few moments. She was cheerful and most helpful. We were given a small key and told to head to our room.

Off we went. To the top of the Hotel. Opened the door to be struck by the scent of musty old..ness. Windows opened immediately.

Surveying the situation we were very relieved. Things were clean! No foreign objects in the bathroom that other reviewers experienced. Sheets clean, towels clean, so other than the not very welcoming smell things were okay, we could survive here.

We were hungry, but not hungry enough to eat downstairs, they had a Halloween party or something going on, so we went to Prezzo. You can read my review of there separately.

When we returned from dinner we went straight upstairs to bed. The party was still underway downstairs but we could not hear a thing. Goodnight, end of day 1.

Day 2 begins with .... the shower! The shower looked okay, bit tired maybe. It's an over the bath shower with a curtain, like you would get in a travel lodge. The spray head has seen better days however, as when we activated the beast the water was like a hosepipe rather than a nice spray. Nice and warm but for those with sensitive skin you risk being brusied getting clean!

Breakfast was next on the agenda. There was an element to breakfast that perhaps more hotels should take note of. Quite unlike your average hotel where you would be allocated a table and consume your food and exchange perhaps brief "goodmornings" with other guests, the White Hart has an entertainment programme which gets everybody working together and making friends, great. Todays task was "work the wonky toaster". You know those toasting machines? Sits on legs? Has a conveyor belt that the bread sits on, comes out the back toasted and slides on some runners to the hungry customer? I know them too, this wasn't one of those. It had one leg shorter than the others so it sat at a 45 degree tilt and there was nothing to catch the toast. We all chuckled together as the thing wobbled about and the toast fell out the back, sometimes onto the floor as a poor elderly gentleman tried to catch it! The guests seemed impressed with my skill as I folded up a small cereal box and used it to balance up the wonky leg. Another guest inserted a plate at the exact position the toast was ejected and we had used teamwork to get toast!

I was too frightened by previous reviews to risk a cooked breakfast. I had toast and some bran flakes and some orange juice. The guests on the table next to us did have a cooked breakfast, and although they waited a while for it they exclaimed on several occasions how good it was.

We left for the day and returned about 5 ish.

This is the first hotel I have ever stayed in that i have found my room not to have been cleaned.

Towels were as we left them, bed was as we left it, bin was un emptied, I'm sure you all agree, completely unacceptable.

We decided to eat out again, this time at the Chinese Cheng Du. Reviewed separately.

Came back, had a drink at the bar, plenty of customers, locals must like it.

Goodnight, end of 2nd day.

Morning 3, this is when we are checking out. So down to breakfast. Breakfast is 7 until 9. Got down for 8.50. No bread or orange juice left, no other guests there and no staff to be seen. Our friendly local from the first paragraph was not around so this time we had to seek them ourself. My wife tracked down a staff member with her outdoor jacket on, perhaps finishing a shift? and asked if we could get some bread? She enquired if we wanted it for toast and if so how many slices as they would prepare it in the kitchen. We asked for 4 and took our seats. We were getting really excited, this has got to be some fantastic toast, given that it took 15 minutes to arrive.

During the wait we thought, cereal? I opened a little packet and found a clean bowl, not the one my wife discovered the previous morning with caked on chocolate! Something inside me told me to have a little sniff of the milk before pouring it, glad I did, ewwwww, nasty. Off I would say.

No cereal for us today. There were 2 yoghurts sitting, suspiciously like the ones that were sitting the day before, decided they should be left alone.

The toast came, was a bit suspect. I presume the bread may have been a day or two old hence make the toast in the back so we didn't see it, but that's just an assumption. Not once were we asked if we would have liked a cooked breakfast.

We packed and came to reception to check out. No receptionist. Nobody at the bar. A cleaner came along and said she would get somebody.

The cleaner returned and said someone would be here shortly, they are doing something on the computer just now. Great, more important that the customer whatever it was. Took her about 5 minutes to appear and she looked like a half shut knife. 'Yawwwn' went the receptionist, several times. The computer was even slower to work than she was, took us about 10 minutes to checkout, during which time she asked us "how many nights did you stay?"

What a business!

So there we are, you must make your mind up now, fancy a night there?

Menu is cheap "Iceland" food, poor quality, no atmosphere to the place, staff are just kids, toilets dirty, no hand dryers working or soap. This place has really gone down hill over the last couple of years. There are better pubs in Buckingham. Not a Family pub. We have been in twice now in a 6 week period, thinking our first bad experience was just a one off, obvioulsy not.....

a filthypit. The car park was arubble site with not enough room for hotel guests. Rooms were freezing cold and plumbing atrocious.Dining room tables full of uncleared plates flies buzzing from these to the uncovered breakfast buffet. My friends cooked breakfast took 1hr to arrive and was inedible, sausages dried unable to cut cold baked beans with a skin on etc. Iasked for poached eggs which took 1/2hr to arrive with 2 doorstops of unbuttered toast. The chefs clothes were filthy and he was very surly and rude. The carpets and flooring looked as if they hadn,t seen a hoover or mop.
