“Gourmet Spy Break”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

We booked a two night 'Gourmet Spy Break' which included a 3-course a la carte dinner the first night, a 3-course table d'hote dinner on the second night and tickets to Bletchley Park. We loved the hotel and the restaurant food and had a very interesting day out at Bletchley Park. We had upgraded to a Premium room for a modest charge and were very happy with the size, comfort and quietness of room 115. We thought that all of the staff were pleasant, helpful and professional. Breakfast was wonderful - quick service, plenty of choice and good to have proper fresh fruit salad. Certainly we would consider coming again.

We've stayed at the Villiers many times, including spending a Christmas break there a year ago. Its always been well worth its stars and rossettes, but not now. Some of the decor seems a bit faded, so an overhaul seems in order. As to two rossettes, they certainly seem generous.

On our first night it took over an hour to serve our one couse, so we didn't stay for a dessert. We asked for fish and chips, but that was off. The pasta replacement was bland, not up to scratch. Same the next night, so we went to another restaurant round the corner. Watch out for the offer of bread and olives. It added £7 to our bill for 4 rolls and a few, very few, olives and a smattering of pesto.

The bar has a big fireplace and the log fire adds to the atmosphere - first class, except that it went out at 7.30 and none of the staff bothered to keep it going.

Perhaps the problem lies with lack of staff. There was an advert in the hotel window asking for waiting staff.

We'll still stay at Villiers again when we're in the area; its the best hotel in the locality

Thank you for your Review and sharing your thoughts. I note your disappointment with the decor of the room allocated, the hotel has an on-going programme of refurbishment to include the guest rooms, public areas, conference and banquet suites, by the time we reach the end we are starting again. I also note that your dining experience was not to our usual standard, I believe that you stayed at the time one of our chef's had a tragic car accident, which not only affected operations at the time but caused upset and worry amongst the staff too. I am truly sorry, we really should have managed this situation better, your evening should not have been affected. We hope to be able to welcome you back to Villiers in the future.

We had a wonderful weekend at this excellent hotel as part of a double birthday celebration. We were made so welcome by ALL the staff, who made our stay feel very special. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, both at breakfast and dinner. All the staff seemed to work together as a team - a tribute to good management! We shall be back to enjoy one of their special breaks.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a deal to visit Bletchley Park.. We were warmly greeted at reception, booked our evening meals and went to our room. This was a Premier double on the first floor and very well appointed. Lots of electrical outlets, excellent wardrobes with interior lights, beverage facilities, large illuminated desk and mirror, and, above all, a feeling of space. A wall mounted TV could be comfortably watched from the two lounge chairs. There is also free wi-fi - yippee!
On the downside the energy saving lightbulbs needed to be twice the wattage and the ceiling lighting was halogen downlighters which gave 'patches' of illumination - move your newspaper one foot to the right or left and reading proved difficult. The heating system was very efficient but it took a long time to feel the effect of trying to reduce the temperature.
The restaurant was very well laid out with an a la carte or fixed price menu - a better grade of ice cream would help.. Service was very good. Breakfast service was equally good with the test of a lightly poached egg being passed with ease.
The courtyard car park provided narrow covered spaces and exits onto a very narrow road where traffic has to stop at a pinch point just at the exit. Large SUVs would require nerves of steel and a driver with 20.20 vision.

We were made to feel very welcome.

I booked a surprise weekend for my husbands special birthday and it was my birthday the following day. The Villiers Hotel was great and the service was excellent. We were given chocolates and champagne for our birthdays which was a very nice surprise. We enjoyed the whole experience including the excellent food. We will definitely go back. My only criticism is the cheap toilet rolls. Please Villiers buy better quality loo rolls before we come back. Well done The Villiers Hotel.

Stopping over in Buckingham, to exchange Christmas gifts with family and friends, we made the decision to spend two nights at Villiers Hotel. We were rewarded with a lovely, large room with good facilities.
The food at the hotel is, without doubt, the jewel in the crown of this comfortable establishment. The staff were friendly and helpful and Buckingham has a number of interesting places to visit.
On our second day, we were entertained during lunch, by a visit from Father Christmas and our bodies were adorned, free of charge, with pretty face paintings. Once again the food was fantastic. This was definiately a family event, when the young children who were present, were able to enjoy all the magic of Christmas.
Thank you Villiers, you made our Christmas.

Room Tip: The rooms in the older part of the hotel, are large and comfortable
