“Lovely Lunch - Flavourful Food”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

This was my first visit to this hotel restaurant having been recommended by a friend.
It was Monday lunchtime, rather late at 1:45pm and the restaurant only had one other table seated with guests. Service was prompt, friendly and very courteous.
Our food was excellent, freshly prepared and fantastic taste.
Portions were adequate and beautifully presented by the kitchen.
This is fine dining and of a high standard.
Our two course lunch cost £14 each but was worth every penny and we will definitely return soon.

“Whole experience a let down!!”
Reviewed August 14, 2014

We arranged a celebratory dinner for our staff and booked a table for 7 people. From the start the service was poor even trying to get drinks before our meal proved difficult. Ordered 2 expensive bottles of wine for our meal, the Red was delivered immediately however there was a wait of 45 mins for the White wine because the chillers were broken and they were trying to chill the wine. Even when delivered the wine was still unable to be drunk (too warm) and took over 60mins to bring to an acceptable temperature. Now the food, over a one hor wait for our starters to be delivered by which time everyone was getting pretty restless. Main courses again a wait of over 25 mins eventually speeded up by the complaint to the Rest manager. Portions not good, steak at £20 not value at all!! Sweets oredered and even after all the trouble we had incurred still managed to get the order wrong and we were left waiting whilst a missing dessert was delivered.

“Sunday cream tea”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

My friend & I thought this was going to be rather special but were rather disappointed. There had obviously been a large birthday party prior to our arrival & staff were busy clearing that up. Only 3 tables for afternoon tea were set & it was in the main restaurant. There was no atmosphere at all. We were asked about our drink preference. I chose Breakfast tea & my friend Earl Grey. The stand arrived with the food selection fairly quickly. There were 3 choices of sandwiches, smoked salmon, cucumber & ham. All of these seemed pre-prepared, not freshly made, as the bread was dry in places. The scones (2 each) were tiny & so crumbly one could not cut them apart. They fell apart , so loading on the cream & jam was messy. Cake wise - a very small slither of fruit/banana cake each , a mini éclair (very dry) & a couple of small tarts. We were starving, having not eaten for hours, so ate it all but it was not great. Nothing seemed that fresh & even the tea was not that special. Had to ask for more tea as none was offered after the initial small pot (2 cups max) was served. The staff were polite, but a little scarce. The bonus of that was we were not hurried. We enjoy each others company & so spent 2 hours over the tea. We both came away not entirely satisfied. All in all it didn't live up to our expectations. A pity, as my friend had booked it as treat.

“Not cheap but good”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

The restaurant forms part of the hotel and can be reached from the attractive 'olde worlde' bar. Most is in a modern extension which does not have quite the same feel as the older section but is comfortable and bright. Service is efficient and the food is well cooked. I would expect this as they have 2 AA rosettes. For my taste the menu was a little restrictive but I'm quite fussy. Well worth a visit if you don't mind paying top whack!
