Four of us stayed for one night in this pub with rooms. The bedrooms were small but clean without any frills, toiletries were not provided.
We ate in the pub in the evening, the menu, being a Hungry Horse pub was mostly 'chips with everything'. We ordered a starter to share between the 4 of us, fish & chips, lamb shank & 2 steaks to be cooked medium rare. The starter came at the same time as the fish & chips main course, which we had to send back. We hadn't finished our started when all the main courses were brought in, so a bit rushed.
I had the lamb shank which was nice & not too big. The medium rare steaks were unfortunately extremely overcooked, actually black in some places. The waiter apologised & said that new ones would be cooked. After 20 minutes, we were told that the steak would be ready in another 3 minutes, but they didn't arrive for another 20 minutes. Forty minutes to cook a steak? It seems a bit extreme.
The new steaks weren't burnt but were tough & inedible. When the waiter asked if they were OK, we told him that they were very tough & couldn't be eaten. He apologised again, but didn't offer to take the steaks off our bill. It meant that our companions had chips & a mushroom to eat, not a good dining experience! With the delay it also meant that we didn't eat together, which did spoil our evening.
All in all, fine if you want a cheap room for the night, but not somewhere you'd go for a nice meal - unless you have the lamb shank & no starter!
