Owner description: The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. The Gay Head Lighthouse is open seasonally. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on Aquinnah Circle. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses do have routes to the lighthouse.

If you visit Aquinnah at one end of Martha's Vineyard, make sure you stop at the lighthouse. For $5.00 you can climb the lighthouse and get a great view of the Atlantis as well as the surrounding land areas. The stairs leading to the top are narrow and a little steep, but very doable. On a clear day, you can see for miles. If you don't want to navigate the stairs, you can walk a short distance and also get a great view of the cliffs. The parking is limited and short term (one-half hour). Suggest you go on a day where there is no wind.

Great views from the top of the cliff. If time allows def stroll down to walk the beach below. It is worth the obvoius effort to walk back up!

This is a truly magical spot. Very peaceful and quite romantic; a lovely place to enjoy the sunset. One could fall in love, again, at this spot. I highly recommend a visit to Aquinnah.

This is a real lighthouse and you can go to the top and feel the heat from the rotating red and white lamps as well as take a walk around the narrow catwalk that circles the top of the lighthouse.

The views are spectacular, but the walk up the narrow stairs are not for the weak of heart or claustrophobic.

FYI, it costs $5 per person which goes to the MV Museum.
