“1st time ATV riders will enjoy!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

My husband signed us up for this excursion for our honeymoon. I was excited for the adventure but very nervous to ride an ATV for the first time with so many other people. I was happy to know you can ride as a passenger in a 4 person buggy if you want to but I really wanted orchids an ATV. The guides are very friendly and clearly love their jobs. (I don't see how they couldn't love their jobs.).

When you get up to the loading area they have a small (challenging) test course for everyone to try. The instructions cards were overwhelming but they go over EVERYTHING for you in a live demonstration which makes it much easier then the info card makes it seem.

The test track is difficult it's short so you can't go very fast but you will need to turn and stop and they can gauge your comfort level from the short track. You get two chances though so take comfort in that!

This is an AMAZING tour of the Waipo Valley. We read a couple of reviews that mentioned short riding time. We did not feel that way. We guess we rode on the ATVs for at least an hour. You get great snacks and a swim break in the kings bath (freshwater pond with a waterfall!) Make sure you wear a swimsuit under your clothes and have a towel in your backpack and we recommend Reefs or similar shoes for the trip.

The views were magnificent and the guides will take pictures for you which is very helpful!

While you don't go more than 20mph on the trip you will get very dirty. Every single thing you take on the ATV including yourself will be covered in dirt. They give you a cap for under your helmet and a bandana to cover your mouth and nose. Make sure you wear sunglasses or bring goggles. They do have goggles you can ask for but you will absolutely need eye coverage.

Absolutely loved this tour and really had a great chance to love my first time riding an ATV. My husband has a lot of experience with ATVs and he enjoyed the tour as well!

My family of four signed up to do this through the concierge of our hotel, the Fairmont Orchid in Kona. The concierge forgot to tell us that we should bring swim suits and towels, so we started out a bit disappointed... But our guides Calvin and Austin were awesome and made it a totally cool experience even without swimming. We were the only four people on our tour so we got a very personal experience. It was about 3 hours long, they showed us how to ride, and my kids (16 and 18) had an awesome time. When we got to the water fall where we could have taken a dip, we just hung out and took pictures and rested a bit. The views are unbeatable, they filled us in on some history of the island and the farming that still goes on there. They were so authentic and had some great stories for us. During the break they gave us snacks and drinks and we also got some sandwiches to bring along at the start. You can also bring your own food in a back pack if you like but we didn't realize we could do that since our concierge was new and didn't have all the info. In any event, we really had a wonderful day. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants to see some amazing sights and have some real action. Wonderful day and memory!

“Great Day!!”

Two highlights of the day included swimming at the king's Bath waterfall - be sure to bring water shoes and a towel. The form the top of YPO is spectacular! If you ride to close accidents will happen.

Thanks for a great day!

“Beautiful sights, amazing guides”

Ride the Rim is a true Hawaii experience. From the friendly, local, knowledgeable tour guides, to the beautiful lookouts and waterfall, this tour combines adventure and beauty perfectly. Omar and Calvin (and a third guide, whose name escapes me) were amazing guides. I highly recommend this all visitors young and old!

We had so much fun on this ATV tour, the scenery was amazing and our young guides were all friendly and fun. We were very surprised that we had so much fun since we have never done anything like it before. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
