Description: TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO HURRICANE DAMAGE Breakfast, lunch, dinner, beer & wine, provisions…get it here! “The Outpost” is a “must stop” spot in the middle Keys. Its home at mile marker 58 has been a famed stopping point for travelers passing by and vacationers settling in, for generations. Today we are newer but just as comfortable. The concept for “The Outpost” was to create something to meet combined needs of a small island including exceptional local dining with hand-crafted fare; groceries and market fodder for home, vacation home, or on the water; a bar for cold drinks or a home-style lunch; a tropical patio for al fresco dining; along with food and fine wines to go. Our menus feature specialties like Fire and Ice Ceviche, hand-crafted oven baked pizzas, Classic ‘diner’ burgers and everything in between. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, the best authentic espresso west of Itlay,or for snacks at the bar, we’re here to welcome you and feed your soul.

We ate lunch on the tables outside with a nice view to the ocean. Excellent fish sandwich and very accommodating service (we started inside then asked to move outside for the view and to be warmer - no problem). Came back for breakfast a couple of days later. The house speciality french toast was particularly tasty!

Don't be in a rush, or expect super quick service, things kind of move on their own pace here.. and as long as you can keep that in mind you will love it. We split a sandwich for lunch to ensure we had room for pie... best decision ever. Service was (i don't want to use the word slow.. but just at it's own pace)... but very friendly, and we loved our time here. Great place to stop on your drive to or from Key West.

We stopped on our way back from Key West following a friend's advice and it was good food but service was very bad. The server forgot to put our order in so we waited 45 minutes to get it. We had the fish sandwich and the fried tomatoes sandwich. Both were good.
We waited another 20 minutes to get coffee and the check. A pity because the food was good although the overall experience was negative.

Ok - it is a tad odd when you first walk in and you see table, chairs and a bar set up within a small convenience store - or is it a convenience store set up within a restaurant? LOL Either way - the food is delicious and different enough to pique your interest-but not crazy enough to deter. The waitstaff are friendly and attentive also. We ate dinner there one night during our stay in Marathon - and came back again a couple days later on our way back from Key West. The homemade Key Lime Cheesecake is FAB-U-LOUS!!!

We stayed in Marathon for a week visiting the keys. Ate at the Grassy Key Outpost for breakfast, lunch, dinner. The menu is simple and food was very well cooked for all three meals. I had the meatloaf which is basic fare but it was tasty and abundant. The service at all three meal was friendly and quick. The background music is light jazz that is not too loud and very pleasant. Give it a try, you will like it.
