My friend and I traveled from Tulum to Xcalak we arrived late at night about 9:00 pm. We were in Xcalak to fly fish and for a day snorkeling trip to Bancho Chinchorro. Although Toby's was closing, he and his brother Eric accommodated us, and remained open. That night we had very fresh fish taco platters with beans and rice. Toby added hot peppers as needed. Over the next few days, we ate at Toby's three times, in fact he even came to our hacienda, Sin Duda, and made us a lobster dinner for six. One night we had Lionfish ceviche that was fabulous. All of Toby's meals were top notch, with fresh seafood and Mexican spices and vegetables.
Toby has great knowledge of the area, being a Native of Xcalak. I understand he is branching out into tour adventures like snorkeling and fishing. Toby is the "go-to" guy in town, for fish, food, and boats. Toby has excellent command of English, and is very friendly. I am looking forward to going back there soon. Oh yeah, the beer is cold too.
