Owner description: XTC Dive Center is located within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park, a strictly protected region of the Meso-american Barrier Reef system. The area boasts some of the most breathtaking dive sites on the Yucatan peninsula and offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy the pristine marine environment without the crowds present in the more developed areas of the coast. XTC Dive Center is internationally known for our world-class customer service, top notch equipment and expert guides. We provide a seamless customer experience through careful planning, logistics and proprietary local knowledge. All of our standard trips and courses provide great value!

This week we had the great fortune to be with the staff at XTC Dive Center. Our 13 year old worked on his open water with Rodrigo Marroquin. Rodrigo is a patient, kind and engaging instructor and also an enthusiastic leader on a dive. Any neurotic mom (such as myself) would feel so comfortable with their child in his capable kind hands! Sophia runs a tight ship and engages with the community of Xcalak several days a week with shore clean-up, library time with the school children, etc. We felt like we were home in the sense of being with like minded people with interests ranging from the environment, to community building and joining, to experiencing the beauty and magnificence of Banco Chinchurro and all the reefs surrounding it. Thank you XTC Dive Center for a terrific experience for our entire family.

Rodrigo really enjoyed working with your son, he was lots of fun to have around the dive shop too! We really enjoyed having you guys at the dive shop and gaining such special memories on your family vacation. Sophia, our office manager, is an absolute gem and has been heavily involved with the local community on many levels, she always appreciates people coming and visiting at story time, plus any stickers, pencils or other prizes for the kids.

We look forward to seeing you guys next time, all ready for Aaron's Advanced Open Water course and some more amazing fun dives.

Great diving (I did ten long, deep quality dives!!) and the weather didn't even cooperate that much for my trip! Good instructors! and the DMT's were a lot of fun and a couple where very experienced. I give them 4.5 stars! If you go Gallos hotel is good and in the town! Be sure to bring cash and groceries (restaurants are expensive) and its hard to pay for the diving w/o cash! Overall a great bunch of people! Very professional shop and free coffee!! I am a DM and dove with 6 shops on this past trip. They are the best. I will dive with them again! Budget travelers this is a hard location for solo budget travelers due to the hotel/food costs for a solo traveler but the diving is a great value!

We believe in long dives! With such warm water, amazing long reefs why wouldn't we be doing one hour long dives? Who doesn't want a nice hot cup of coffee on arrival, however we are also firm believers in a bit of a sleep in on your vacation so our start time is usually a respecatable 9am dives for customer!
Gallo, our boat captain, has built great value accommodation in town, where else can you get all those facilities for only 350mxn a night? Gallo works exclusively with XTC giving our clients a broader range of accommodation to cater to all budgets
Good advice on the cash, as Xcalak does not have a bank or ATM's and the vegie trucks are a great way of buying groceries to help save on expenses too.

Very well equiped diving center with nice and helpful staff! I did a refresher course after 13 years of diving abstinence and went consecutively on a great dive together with Rodrigo and others!

While staying in Xcalak we went out on a few dives with XTC. Both the dive center and our dive guide, Phil were great.

We did two dives one day and one dive to 'La Poza' the following day. Both times it was just myself and my partner along with Phil who did a great job of mapping our our dive plans ahead of time. The dive boat was especially nice (big and clean) and the captain was great.

The sites we visited were beautiful and we saw some spectacular sea life. We even got to see a big loggerhead turtle nose to nose!

The dive at "La Poza' was particularly spectacular. It was a windy day and our captain did an amazing job getting us in and out of the dive site. The 100 or so 7 +ft. tarpon that were congregating at the dive site were incredible. The entire dive was just other worldly and we got to see turtles and other large fish including huge horse eye jacks and grouper.

My partner and I have been diving all over the world and this was certainly one of the best dives.

One note: If you are doing multiple dives in one day be sure to bring some snacks with you as there is nowhere to pick up food nearby during your surface intervals!

Thanks for taking the time to complete a review. All the Divemasters complete a mapping project for their course and we love to use those for our dive site briefings.

All of our dive boats have recently completed refits to make them more comfortable and all the engines are in good condition and we are in the process of changing the two stroke engines to more environmentally friendly four stroke engines too!

We are always impressed with the turtles and the huge tarpon and glad we got to share that experience with you. It's seems insane when you say '100 or so 7 +ft. tarpon that were congregating' but it's just that isn't it? Tarpon as big as yourself, happily schooling around you!

You must have missed the days Gladys and Gloria were cooking, our little cafe aims to keep our divers all fed up between dives!

Unfortunately due to strong winds we couldn't make it to Banco Chinchorro, Nevertheless our experience was great. We had a good snorkel trip as well as 2 nice dives.

The area around Xcalak is perfect to relax and get away from the noisy tourist areas of Cancun and Co. Will come back for sure.

March was a windy windy month! I'm glad you and the family made it on a snorkel trip together into Rio Chico, a RAMSAR site. I'm glad you got to experience Xcalak Marine Park as well, often people rate it as some of the best diving they have seen in the world.

Xcalak is definitely away from the hustle and bustle of touristy areas. We don't even have a souvenir store or cell phone reception!

We look forward to seeing you next time.
