“Nice hotel with a great location.”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We recently stayed for 2 nights in room number 510. Really nice big room with 2 Juliet balconies overlooking the pool area and another large deck overlooking the town square and church. The church from this deck at night when it is all lit up is quite lovely. Very large corner room with sitting area and huge bathroom ( shower only ).
They give you 2 bottles of water in the room free but once they are gone you buy your own. You also have to pay for everything as you get it you can't just put it on your room as in other hotels.
We enjoyed the restaurant . They make some of the dishes right at your table which is kind of cool.
The hotel is in the Center of most things we wanted to see so we could walk to it all . We did a walking tour right from the hotel including cenote Zaci. Lots of shops and restaurants right outside your door.
Wi fi is free but didn't work much in the room.
Chichen Itza is only 40 Kms away So the hotel works as a base to see the ruins and many cenotes that are in the area. We got to Chichen Itza at 8 am and are very glad we went early as we got finished around 11 and it was just getting crazy with tour buses .
All in all the hotel has nice rooms a nice little pool . We walked a lot even at night and felt very safe.

On our posh backpacking tour of the yucatan this was our hotel highlight over 3 weeks and 6 differerent places. A wonderful old collonial building with a great restaurant around a fountain in the first courtyard and nice but smallish pool in the quad behind that. Simple traditional rooms and very good service. It is right on the main sqaure which is sinigifanctly quainter and more appealing than Merida and far better access to Chichen Itza and Ek Balham (recomended as less touristy and more jungleified)
Price was the upper end of our budget (800 M$ = £45 / $55 US for standard room) but well worth it and miles better value than more touristy places like Tulum or Playa.
Breakfast not included in our deal but recomended, as a bit pricier than local places but really really good.

The rooms have what they should, but not much more. Clean, orderly and safe, if not luxurious or warm. The beds are hard, as in medieval hard. However, the grounds of the spread out hotel and restaurant are lovely and its location in town is perfect in this authentic locale. The restaurant is why you come and its proximity to the main town square is helpful and charming.

Nice hotel in good location but they gave us a room that did not match description, it was not at all a junior suite but they called it one, and told us we could leave if we didn't like it. They said the hotel was fully booked. Their manner was intransigent.

Room Tip: Tell them you want an upstairs junior suite with balcony.

We stayed at the hotel El Meson del Marques for one night, after a long flight in and a 100 mile drive. If the room we were given was a superior room, thank heaven we had paid the extra for it, as I'd have hated to be in a standard room. The expected balcony on which we'd anticipated taking a relaxed drink at the end of a long day turned out to be a Juliet balcony. Neither could we have a good soak in the tub as there was no plug.
That said, the staff were willing and pleasant, and although being asked to pay upfront at check-in for one night's accommodation was more in keeping with a house of ill-repute than a reputable hotel, we paid our bill on arrival.
We ate in the attractive and charming hotel restaurant and can confirm previous reviewers' comments that getting served initially is the hardest part - we were seated at our table waiting over 20 minutes before any member of staff deigned to come near us. The meal was OK, but cheaper wines on the list seemed to be unavailable - how strange!
The bed was small, hard and uncomfortable (remember this is a superior room!) and the sheet was not big enough to cover us both.
The final indignity came when we tried to check out...bearing in mind we had already paid up-front! We had to return the TV remote control, so when we did then had to stand in reception for 15 minutes waiting for a car park exit ticket, whilst housekeeping staff checked that "we had not left anything behind"; when we asked whether they did not trust us, we were told this was hotel policy...which was confirmed by the hotel reception manager who had been standing next to us all the time we confronted her poor receptionist!
In all our travels - and we have stayed in many odd and much inferior hotels in our time - my wife and I have never been made to feel so like criminals as this hotel managed - AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!

stayed here for the 2nd time.

Last time we had a suite room in the mainbuilding. Really great ! This time they only had space available in the side block - std room. Rooms so so, bathroom good but a bit small.
Breakfast is served downstairs in the hacienda style patio. Service is good. Hotel is visited by individuals but also large groups of roundtrip tours which means that in the early hours there is already quite some ´noice´ of people moving suitcases.

Hotel has a private parking lot. Very convenient. We liked the hotel and the stay ! You can see the main attractions on walking distance from the hotel.

We rented the standard room for $55 night and found the room to be quite nice and roomy overlooking the piscina! The staff were very good and we checked out late witout any problem or extra charges. The real draw however is the restaurant featuring yucatecan specialties! Huevos Motulenos, Zac Col, pibil, Queso relleno you must try them all! Very tasty and unique.
