“Warm, magical place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

This family run hotel is magical. The authentic decorations speak of a much loved family residence, full of character yet with all modern necessities including free wifi. Breakfasts were large and home cooked - no need for lunch!
Just wonderful place run by wonderful people in the splendid Valladolid.

We enjoyed our stay - largely due to the wonderful staff: sweet people, accomodating, anxious to help, knowledgable about their city/area, and just loveable, courteous people in general.
The hotel is cute, the grounds are charming, the interior with all of the old tiles and photos of the family are fascinating - especially that glimpse of the kitchen.
I found our room to be a bit gloomy - but that was the style, with the dark wood, etc. Yes, there was a problem with the hot water. However as soon as we told them about it they took great pains to fix it. Within a few minutes we saw a guy up on the roof fooling with the contraption. They came in to the bathroom to check it a few times, and within a half hour all was fixed.

My husband and I stumbled upon Casa Marlene while we were looking for a place to stay in Valladolid, we were drawn in thinking that it would probably be very expensive as it looked so delightfully put together, but we were surprised when it was very reasonable. They offered us a "walk in" discount, welcomed us, and immediately made us feel like family. The atmosphere is friendly and kind, and instantly made us feel at home. As we sat by the pool after visiting Cenotes they offered us a beer on the house. They gave us a great recommendation for dinner, a tiny local place with delicious food. When we came back from dinner we sat by the pool and they brought us over tequila, again on the house. They are generous, loving, kind, knowledgable people and the atmosphere is certainly great, lots of smiles and laughter. Breakfast was fruit and yogurt, followed by mexican style eggs, beans, and tortillas--filling and delicious. I can't recommend Casa Marlene highly enough.

This was an amaaaaazing find and I'm SO glad we stayed here. The location is perfect - right next to the main plaza, just one block from the main cathedral and the town square. Regardless of which portion of the hotel you stay at (Tia Micha or Marlene), the experience was wonderful. We were welcomed like family and all of our questions were answered in the most helpful way. The staff is extremely resourceful and everyone does their best to help you in any way they can, always with a smile. We received some great recommendations about places to eat around town, and were informed about the local cenotes that are worth visiting.

The hotel has nice grounds that include a small pool, an outdoor seating/lounging/breakfast area and some other tables to relax. It's extremely serene and peaceful and you immediately forget that right outside the doors is a busy city center.

The hotel has its own parking, which is pretty large, so you don't have to park on the side of the street. The room rate includes breakfast, which was absolutely delicious and included multiple courses of fruit, yogurt, eggs or omlet and something sweet like a crepe or some crumpets, not to mention tea, coffee, water and juices.

The service was superb. My husband and I needed to leave at 7 am while breakfast doesn't start until 8, but we were still accommodated despite the time difference. The owner is a terrific woman whose family owned the property and actually used to live there. Only a few years ago it was all converted to a hotel, which is just so impeccably clean and no detail is overlooked.

I highly highly recommend this place and hope to one day come back for another visit.

Room Tip: There are 2 parts to the property - Casa Tia Micha and Casa Marlene. The Tia Micha is a bit older an...

We stayed in the new wing of this hotel - "Casa Marlene" - a charming family run hotel with rooms set around a small pool and garden. The bedrooms were very large and the family were extremely friendly, helpful and generous. You will enjoy your stay here.

This hotel is a lovely place to stay when in Valladolid. It's very near to the main square and other places of interest and offers free secure parking. The staff were all extremely friendly and really seemed to enjoy welcoming us to their hotel. We had the honeymoon suite which was a great size with a large bed, table & 4 chairs, a good AC system and plenty of closet space. Plus they provided a free bottle of wine and other drinks in the fridge. Breakfast was supplied at the sister hotel a few doors down the street. This was in a beautiful garden where we also had use of a small pool and whirlpool. The breakfast was prepared fresh and brought to us by a really nice group of staff who never stopped smiling!
If you are lucky enough to stay in Valladolid, then this is the place to be!!

We spent 2 nights at Casa Tia Micha with our 2 teenage daughters last November and absolutely loved the experience. We loved staying in an old Spanish-style house right in the city, with all the family history on the walls. The breakfast area overlooks the garden, which is lovely. And the food served is outstanding - different every morning, all very typical and delicious dishes. The tamales are indeed incredible! The pool was very cold when we were there, but one of my daughters still enjoyed it after a long day out. Our room was a family room (with 2 queen beds), which was very large, with a nice bathroom. But the most remarquable aspect of this place is the kindness and friendliness of everyone around (Julio, his aunt and uncle, etc.). They gave us lots of great advice for restaurants in Valladolid and for visits around (particularly loved Izamal, near Merida). The location of Casa Tia Micha is great - just one block from the centre of the City, with its plaza, church and shops. Actually, most places of interest in Valladolid are walking distance from the hotel. We really enjoyed the 'small town' feel of the city, a breath of fresh air after Cancun, and loved our stay at Casa Tia Micha.
