“Great location, great staff and great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

We stayed at Casa Tia Micha for two nights in January for our wedding anniversary and we were very pleased. There are lots of great things about Casa Tia Micha but without a doubt, the very best part is the management and staff. The customer's experience is important to them and you can tell in every aspect of what they do. The second day we were looking for some orange juice so we could make some Sunday afternoon mimosas. The store across the street only had some strange orange/soy beverage so we asked the hotel staff where to get some normal orange juice. They quickly offered to squeeze us up some complimentary fresh juice and drop it off at our room!

The room itself was lovely, clean and quiet. The beds are very firm (which is normal in Mexico) but the wi-fi worked perfectly (which is not normal in Mexico!). They also left us a nice complimentary bottle of wine and they provide free gated parking. The morning breakfast is served just a couple of doors down at Casa Marlene and it was just wonderful. Fresh yummy coffee and a three course breakfast (fresh fruit and yogurt followed by an egg dish and a sweet crepe to finish) is served outside under a covered patio.

The hotel is located 1/2 block from the center square and walking distance to everything. The square looks amazing at night with the church all lit up and there is a nice street a couple of blocks from the square where there is a Tequileria (free samples) and a block or so later a Chocolate Factory (free samples) and then another block to a Perfumery. At the end of the street is an old convent which is quite beautiful.

We had a wonderful time in Valladolid and highly recommend staying at Casa Tia Micha.

Nos alojamos por dos noches en enero para nuestro aniversario. Encontramos la habitación limpia y cómoda, y el personal era amable y servicial. La habitación está a media cuadra de Centro y el estacionamiento es gratuito. El desayuno es muy delicioso. Recomendamos altamente Casa Tia Micha.

We were 2 families and stayed here, in the new section of the hotel, for 1 night.

We were happy with the rooms, and the lovely garden outside our doors. Breakfast was 3 courses (including dessert!) and was fresh.

Additionally, the owner cooked us dinner which was fantastic and authentic.

Great location about a block from the town square.

Highly recommend. I would return.

We enjoyed our one-night stay at Casa Tia Micha, though we obviously weren't quite as delighted as some earlier reviewers. The staff were all extremely pleasant and welcoming, but we were sad that we weren't in one of the rooms in the original Tia Miicha. We were taken instead to a second building a few doors down the street. (I'm not quite sure how a miscommunication took place, as I thought I was clear in my emails about wanting one of the original rooms.) Our room in the new section, "The Suite Deluxe," was huge--15' x 30' plus anteroom, with a 15' ceiling--and quite attractive, but rather dark. A small anteroom/entrance had doors opening onto the garden, but the windows in the main room looked into the public lounge/eating area (a covered patio), so the drapes had to be kept closed for privacy. A marble jacuzzi tub, which we enjoyed, was in one corner of the room. The bathroom itself, with a lovely skylight, was great. The owners are trying hard to make this into a "boutique" hotel, but aren't quite there yet. For example, the flimsy sheets were much less than perfect, with a bottom sheet that refused to remain tucked in. The robes that were provided, which could have been a nice boutique touch, were short and made of some cheap synthetic material that wouldn't absorb any moisture at all. Unlike the lovely garden of the original section of the hotel down the street, this garden has only recently been developed. It will probably look terrific in a few years, but is less than wonderful now. There were lots of little pots around with small plants. We would suggest investing in larger pots and plants until the immature shrubs and trees grow larger. We would have enjoyed the small but attractive pool if the weather had been warmer. We did enjoy the covered patio, with its comfortable seating area and breakfast tables. As our room was immediately beside this area, we had reliable wi-fi service. The parking was conveniently located in a large, secure lot immediately beside this part of the hotel and accessed through a gate.

Room Tip: We understand the nicest rooms are in the original building, not in the new one. We suggest you ask...

We booked the honeymoon suite via Hostelworld. When we arrived in Valladolid we were escorted to a "second" hotel down the street and given a room which didn't come even close to the pictures on Hostelworld. It was a tiny (suite??) and dark room with mold on the walls, random furniture and a poorly stocked mini bar (1 can of beer). The bathroom was extremely small and the shower didn't work properly. Further, the Wifi was so weak that we had to go to the outside common area. This all for $107 per night. After one night and massively complaining we were given a room in the "real" hotel which resembled the pictures on Hostelworld. I urge every future visitor to be very careful with this place and make sure you get what you booked.

Hi.

We have two specific things if you book by Hostelworld:
Number one. We have together all the rooms (Main & new section), when you make the booking for Hostelworld check if your booking see the last name "Marlene", all the rooms that say that are IN THE NEW SECTION OF THE HOTEL (next door of the main building), although are two different hotels. AND NUMBER TWO, HOSTELWORLD LET ME PUT ONLY TEN PHOTOGRAPHS of all the hotel.
We want say, in Booking.com we are like "Casa Tía Micha" and "Casa Marlene by Casa Tía Micha" (separate), but here works the same owners, staff, chefs.
Like summary if you make the booking from Hostelworld, the first step is see if the name of the room say "Marlene" like last name. Although you will find new photographs.
Our minibar includes only water and sodas.
We want apologize for this mistake, and guarantee to all the people that we are your best option, because our mission is give the best service and that you feel like home.

Thank you all for your confidence and we will waiting for you in your trip, because we want make to your trip the better!

We stayed at Casa Tia Micha for three nights. It made a great base as it was well located to the centre of Valladolid and the bus station. From Valladolid we went to Ek' Balam and Chichén Itzá both of which you can get to in colectivos situated within walking distance of the hotel.

Our first two nights were in a standard room which was very comfortable although had a small issue with damp so it smelt a little musty. Our final night was in the Honeymoon Suite which was very comfortable and a nice way to finish off our stay.

The breakfast was good consisting of fresh fruit salad, yogurt, a cooked eggs dish (changes everyday) and cake/dessert (flan/crepes). All served with fresh juice and coffee.

The hotel has decent wi-fi although it only really works in the communal area. All in all Casa Tia Micha makes for a great base in Valladolid whilst exploring this part of the Yucatan. The very friendly staff may even offer up some of the local spirits which are surprisingly good.

Hands down the most hospitable staff I've ever experienced at a hotel working here. They were incredibly accommodating and kind. The place is incredibly cute and unique and very clean. We stayed there two nights. The first morning we were being picked up early by MexiGo Tours, they opened up the kitchen early for us and provided us with sweet bread, fruit, coffee, juice and made us delicious crepes with homemade papaya jam. The next morning they made us eggs with chea (?) leaves and again bread, fruit, coffee and juice. The woman working there seemed ready to make us anything we wanted.

My Partner and I stayed here with a dear friend whose name is Marlene. We had just spent 3 weeks at our house on the Gulf and decided to trek to Valladolid en route to Tulum before heading back to NYC via Cancun on Friday morning. We found Casa Marlene online and were charmed by the photos and other positive reviews. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most friendly people who guided us to our room. Once settled in we stopped by the outdoor sitting area (where an amazing breakfast is served!, fresh fruits, the best coffee, savory eggs and creamy black beans as a side) and chatted with our hosts. We were directed to key points of interest and none failed to please and delight. Back in our rooms ready for a sleep, we slipped into the most comfortable beds with the highest quality bedding. Very comfy. I woke this morning and the scale of the room was so pleasing to take in. The rooms are huge and tastefully decorated. We are eager to return on our next trip to stay here and take in more of this beautiful chic city. Muchas Gracias Casa Marlene! XOXO, John, Robert & Marlene
PS: After a day of travel and a 2 hour jaunt throught Chichenitza (again!) we highly recommend a dip in the pool here at Casa Marlene. The courtyard garden is beautifully appointed and deeply relaxing.
