“Lovely cenote”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

Great cenote which was cool on a very hot day. Steps down very slippy and not many places to stick your towel once you were down. But lovely to swim in.

“Absolutely stunning!”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

We visited both cenotes at Dzitnup: X'Keken and Sak Muu Ja. Both are utterly stunning! We were very fortunate that we were able to enjoy X'Keken for quite some time in peace and quiet by ourselves. It was an "other-worldly" experience to swim inside this natural cavern, sunlight streaming in through the hole in the chamber roof and no sound other than bats squeaking and water plashing as we swam. We left to visit the second cenote when the screaming crowd of revelers arrived. Sak Muu Ja is far different but just as gorgeous. We were amazed at the azure water smack in the centre: brilliant and so clear it looked only 3 feet deep! We were alone for at least a half hour and when people arrived, it was one other couple and an awesome fella by the name of Mike from NYC who were all happy to just enjoy the peace and beauty of the cenote. The only downside was forgetting our camera -we both thought the other had it! Postcards for sale for a dollar with many truly stunning images saved the day. We took a taxi from Vallodolid to Dzitnup for $6.00 (USD) and the trip back cost $8.50 (USD) because the driver said we were going further than the main plaza. Still well worth it! The cost of entering the cenotes is minimal for what you see and experience. There are lots of vendors but all are polite and gracious when told "No, gracias." Highly recommend this side trip as a way of refreshing yourself on a hot, hot day and to just absorb some more of this earth's natural beauty!

“Also known as Dzitnup”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

Wonderful cenote to swim in. the shaft of light that stabs the water is a delight to swim through. The neighbouring Samoula is also well worth the visit, and tends to get less visitors. Come early, that should be the rule for all cenotes, and you can enjoy the magical place to yourselves.

This cenote is small but refreshing. My husband and I got there around 10 am and the vendors were just getting started. We basically were the only ones there, barring a small Mexican family. You cannot do much in the cenote - there are no cliffs for diving or rope swings - but despite its small size it's very serene and different then some of the other open cenotes due to its almost closed off ceiling. There is only a small opening at the hop that lets in light making it a bit ominous. The water is cool but felt great after a hot day in the sun. We didn't stay long as there isn't much to do, but still worth a visit - just come early!

“My, how things have changed.”
Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

This is a great spot. The whole place is magical. to swim in such pristine blue water is a real treat. A handful of years ago it was about 25 pesos for whoever entered. The attraction was the cenote. Now it is 59 pesos and has a bit of a circus feel. There are more diversions and hawkers than ever. They now have a palapa to set up under. I believe there was some type of slide for the kiddies as well. The area was clean, but falling apart in spots. What I must say with the most scorn is the price nationals pay and the price foreigners pay. We have seen it from time to time in the last 9 months as we travel in mexico and central america. I could not justify this practice for a foreign visitor in my country, so this review loses points for charging me double. It is baseless. The fee to enter is not much, but the line for being charged double for being a foreigner has to be drawn. What's next, being charged double at a supermarket? Why not?
