“A delightfully unforgettable dining experience!!”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I have returned to Canada and dream about eating at Taberna de los Frailes again. We spontaneously decided to eat there after visiting the beautiful and fascinating Templo de San Bernardino & Convento de Sisal across from the restaurant. It was the most delicious and enchanting dining experience of our 14 day trip to the Yucatan. Jorge, our mesero, introduced us to the wonders of Yucatecan cuisine by actually taking us out into the garden to see, touch and taste the plants that are the unique ingredients of the delicious Maya dishes on the menu. With his guidance, we chose the green soup made with chaya, maculam, and xcatic peppers, a delicious fish dish in annatto sauce, a risotto with chaya and maculam and grilled watermelon on panela cheese marinated with oregano served with papaya sauce. We took our time and savoured every morsel and marvelled at the beauty of the presentation. The mojito I had was exceptional as well as the delicious coffee we had with our scrumptious desert. The finale was complimentary Xtabentun liqueur over ice and a fond goodbye. We felt like we had made good friends with Jorge, or George as he says he is known and with Taberna de los Frailes. Our experience there was the perfect conclusion to a day of exploring cenotes, Mexican art, history and architecture and the beautiful city of Valladolid. With luck, I will return to eat there again. Muchas gracias for your hospitality and delicious food. It was a flavour fusion "to die for".

“Best restaurant in Valladolid”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

As an Italian contributor previously stated I cannot believe Lonely Planet didnt mention this restaurant in their Valladolid section.
It is indeed the best restaurant in town, in a lovely location close to S. Bernardino's convent and with a warm service.
We went in for cocktails and their guacamole was so good and waiter so friendly we decided to give it a try. And yes it was worth it. Shame it was our last day and couldnt go back for more. We highly recommend it!

“Romantic location, excellent service and high quality food”
Reviewed August 2, 2012 via mobile

Restaurant owened by one of Valladolid's most well-off families. Very romantic, autoctonous atmosphere and very well prepared and courteous staff. Yucatan inspired international menu with some dared dishes like fried water melon. Don't leave this place without trying the extremely delicious coconut and mango cream!
