“Nice pizza in a pretty setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

The pizza here is a little bit stodgy, but freshly made and with good ingredients, and we found it made a nice change as a break from Mexican food. Service was absolutely lovely – really friendly and helpful, and everyone speaks English, which is otherwise quite rare in Valladolid. We found it a bit tricky to locate – it’s on the south side of a square on Calle 35 (between 42 and 44), called Parque de la Candelaria. The entrance is a little hidden behind the small children’s playground on that side of the square. Don’t give up, though – it’s worth the hunt!

“Lovely atmosphere with excellent pizza,”

This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The pizza dough is absolutely delicious. Recommend the garlic pizza as a starter. The lassagne we had was average.

“Nice place for a pizza!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

We ate here one night when we were staying close by at Candeleria Hostel. Wonderful service, quick and efficient. We had a pizza which was plenty for two,two glasses of reasonablely priced Pinot Grigio, and Nutella gelato for dessert. Enjoyed the meal and the experience.

“Beautiful Space Big Disapointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Wishing to avoid the huge crowds and noise of Merida's carnival, a friend and I decided to escape to Valladolid for the weekend. The decor of Casa Italia is charming and inviting with a nice location on the park. The battered plastic laminated menus didn't make for a good start. I asked for the shrimp listed on the menu to go with the alfredo pasta but was informed shrimp was no longer available so I decided on Hawaiian pizza. My friend chose a pasta with some sort of tomato creme sauce. The pizza arrived as a big gooey mess, under-cooked crust, strips of typical grocery store sandwich ham and chucks of canned pineapple, two bites was all I could eat. My friend's pasta arrived with a very watery tomatoish sauce, nothing more, no salad, no side dish, nothing to go with it, very boring, not much flavor. After explaining to wait staff that the pizza was uneatable, the only response I got was if I would like a go box for the pizza. Staff and/or management could have made some effort to correct the situation or perhaps adjust the check, put no, they did nothing. Over all it was a very big dinning disappointment.

“Never failed to please”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

During my weeks stay at Hostel Candelaria, I ate here three times. I am a pushover for Gorgonzola cheese and had the special which featured it one night. I also enjoyed their wood fired pizza oven pizza on another night. I also enjoyed a modestly priced pasta dish the third time that I ate there. The owner/chef and his wife are always just as friendly as they can be. The setting is either indoors or outdoors in a garden with a fountain. What more could you ask for than a little piece of Italy in Mexico?
